1. The end of the first half sequence is possibly the most mismanaged 30 seconds, given all the circumstances facing the team in my 40 years going to the dome. How do you have a 12 second possession and give up a punt return td? With that QB, on your own 20, you take a knee and get out of the half happy to be down 3.

2. Rickie is horrible, but nixon does nothing to help him— no rollouts, minimal play action pass, etc…

3. Why bring in Carney, give him 7 plays and take him out in the middle of a series never to return?

4. Defense played pretty well for a change.

It would have been nice to see Carney get a few series where they just actually ran the offense. He throws a pic or whatever it’s not going to be any worse than what we saw out of Rickie. I know he’s got an arm, I’ve seen the film lol.

You’re 4 for 4 my man.

defense played GREAT. frans antics on the sideline are getting troublesome as well. his coaching demeanor speaks volumes. a big piece that has been missing is the lack of use of dan villari. he is totally been underutilized. he was the one bright spot in the sea of incompetent offense and running game disaster.
collins seemed to improve as he settled down a bit. the lack of a decent running game is totally critical. i felt very bad for the team, maybe collins he has been under coached and played better as time went on. .
this and the other recent issues seem to say that the coaching staff is not on the same with each other . whoever was responsible for management of the end of the half, should be fined. old ben would be hanging his head in shame.
i hope the team can regroup and build on collins now
despite the coaching issues. he seemed to mature some as time went on.

3. So glad I turned it off once they brought back Collins.

On TV the camera was on HCFB right after the punt return TD. He was yelling into the headset: "Un-*&!ing -believable, run the ball" (or something to that effect). Guessing Nixon was on the other end.

Perfect summary

The only thing I can think of with Carney was either he missed a bunch of things not apparent to us but were apparent to the coaches, or he was hurt. No other explanation.

Very disappointed with Nixon. He had 2 weeks to scheme for Pitt and THAT was what he came up with? Pitt's DC could have watched a little film on SU, spent the entire week carving pumpkins, and still have known everything we were going to do.

There is more imagination in the stuff growing on month-old bread than there is in our running attack.

Considering Coach Fran was caught on a hot mic on the sideline saying “I ’d that up.”

I think this is squarely on Coach Brown

Pitt had 2 TOs. A single run wouldn't have made a big difference.

Pitt frosh QB Heintschel is slower getting rid of the ball than Heinz ketchup is coming out of the bottle. his possession time alone in the pocket probably ate up a whole qtr.

Re #3 have to think it was to let carney get his feet wet and start to prepare him for more to come without getting him crushed literally (physically) and figuratively (mentally/shattering confidence). Also perhaps to light a fire under Collins arse when nothing else clearly has. Actually Collins DID play better afterwards.

Think we can Expect to see the two headed qb monster going forward which brings up the old adage about playing two qbs……..back to the future we go madei Williams Troy nunes style. Oy ve

On a brighter note, very pleasantly surprised with amount of fans there yesterday

This loss was on coaching. No offensive wrinkles. No WR jet runs. All runs up the middle. No use of QB runs until second half. Rickie’s legs are a clear weapon.

Fran has taken points off the board in every FBS game or, as last night, gift wrapped points. Our offense is struggling. Get to second half 10-7 and regroup.

Use of Carney is perplexing. Did we use a FR game for 5-7 plays??? Why is Williams not ready after 2 years?

I’m still dumbfounded that it’s the end of October and we have Carney, who apparently can’t run much of the offense. And even Collins is supposedly limited and he has been with us for a while. How do other programs get their QBs up to speed so quickly and we can’t?

Yes, the TV announcers commented about this. Fans want to blame Fran Brown, but this one may be on Nixon. Either way, it's hard to imagine what the thought process was, given the circumstances.

Pitt had three timeouts. SU couldn’t have taken a knee to end the half.

This always gets me. To not prep back ups to be ready to play seems embarrassing to admit. What is it that you would say they are doing then?

At least take the knee and force them to use the TOs

This is football 101 level stuff
Agreed. But to say “just take a knee to end the half” is not possible.
