QB aside, where can the team turn on offense.

In looking at the game participation reports for the last two games what is very surprising is that while the defense has been playing 2 deep +, the offense has a much more limited participation.

Other than the starters the other WR's that have appeared in both game are Sharod Johnson, Courtney Jackson, and Justin Barron.

Isaiah Jones has played, I'm guessing on specials.

No Hendrix

15 WR's on the roster (I know some are walkons). Where is the production going to come from?

RB - IMO Tucker needs to be the feature back, JJ the swiss army knife.

TE - Mahar has played, I'm guessing on specials. Maybe they need to go even more 2Tight 2Wide and get Benson or Hackett in the slot. If they want to run bubble, do it with those guys blocking instead of NJ.

OL - Ilaoa has played, like to see him get time at Center and either move Vettorello over to RG or sit him. Need crisper snaps and need to stop the interior of the OL collapsing quickly on pass pro.

Approach, would like to see earlier throws to get the defense out of the box and stay with the chains.

So here's the thing with Tucker...

I'm excited too, but let's remember that his first two carries appeared to be on a special package that was a bit unique where we went super hurry up, and one of his other ones was on a toss outside, which we NEVER run. So while he was productive, there are 2 seemingly contradictory takeaways that nevertheless are both true - we need to see him succeed as part of the "normal" offense, and since our base offense struggles so much loosening things up is probably going to help.

Jordan has shown more than Tucker in their careers to this point. He's still the guy to ride. I'm convinced we're not using him right. We're making him run into the defense instead of run away from the defense.

I would like to see the play calling change, not the players. Jawhar Jordan needs to be out in space.

I tried re watching the game... turned it off immediately after the double qb sneak in the red zone . On a turnover no less and we just ran a successful short pass. Im starting to realize what texas fans and usf fans are griping about. Sean lewis was creative and thought outside the box... sterling needa to prove hes not stubborn and orchestrate a true symphony. Our offensive game plan when we defeated Clemson was very unique and melodic. Loved lining up our receivers then creating confusion moving them around like chess peices.

i think the issue is more did the QBs read that had both of them run the same play into a stacked line cause IHope the coaches didnt have a no option but a QB run play called twice. if the read was correct then we need to figure out what is not working with that read on the play giving our blocking issues and remove that option unless we learn how to block it better.

Dino needs to step up. His offense is a train wreck from top to bottom starting with him.
1: Dino is not a good play caller. He was removed from that as an assistant coach. Play calling and clock management are not his gift.
2: Cav needs to be on a short leash. Injuries or not his players have regressed and may not be playing the positions they should be.
3: Personnel decisions.
4: In game adjustments
top to bottom this is the worst offense i have ever seen at Syracuse including the little train years. Its pathetic.

I would like to see our TEs get some touches. A two fold benefit there with TD seemingly comfortable throwing to them last year and they demonstrated good hands...better then some of our WRs.

Allow me . Tommy read it right the DE showed Outside contain at the mesh point
he had no choice but to keep it . I froze the screen and then as soon as he took a step the D line is all over him .
Rex had a run all the way not a read , had it been a read the DE crashed and Rex should have gave it to Jackson but again that was a Qb design run for Rex . A bad play call vs a line we didn’t budge an inch until the 2nd half
I want to scrap the uptempo teams can simply fake a cramp to slow you down . We still have WRs not reading routes .TD needs to be able to communicate with them in the huddle , let the lineman think about there assignments for a second ! I mean cmon we I’m watching our own players be gassed , missing assignments. When’s things are not operating correctly you slow it down it’s common sense . Not to mention let TD gather himself from all the hits he takes . And I’m sure the Defense wouldn’t mind an extra minute or two to rest . Go uptempo when we get to high school. Right now we are in 3rd grade

I agree but that comes with protection risk

I’ve been saying this for 2 years now. We aren’t tiring teams out like we did 4 years ago.

The Hendrix thing baffles me. Wasn't he listed as a starter a couple years ago in the preseason before his first injury? I get that maybe guys passed him while he rehabbed a couple times but how does he not get on the field at all? Is he still physically limited?

This post makes a ton of sense.

At 200lbs I prefer his size and speed combo better to hit the hole and break through arm tackles, AND hold up better blocking. There's a role for both but I want the bigger back to be the primary. Throw him in the fire and take the chance.

The coaches spend hours/days formulating play calls for each situation.

I don't know how we can question that part of the process.

It seems to me to be a physical thing - we are getting beaten badly up front.

That has to be addressed somehow.

If it means changing the scheme cover our OL weakness - if that's what you mean - I'm fine with it.

But worrying about individual play calls is a losing game in my opinion.

Go watch the double QB sneak again, particularly the first one. Watch what all the players are doing. There's not a doubt in my mind the first one was supposed to go to to Jackson on the jet sweep and TD instead pulls the ball. There is no way that was the called play and the first option. Watch JJ in the backfield as he flares out right specifically to be a lead blocker for Jackson.

The DEnd comes across but I'd expect Jackson to either out run him to the edge or for JJ to have chipped him. I'm not sure if Jackson gets in but it was there. Beside Jordan as a designed blocker we had 2 WR out there on DBs. If Jackson gets the edge we have a 4 on 3 advantage 6 yards from the endzone and the ball in a playmakers hand.

So, let's reverse the roles then. Have Tucker take the inside runs and let Jordan run the special package plays.
Regardless of the plays run, I thought Tucker showed that he should be getting some carries, at least over Pierre, who I think has lost his chance for the time being by not making much of an effort to chip blitzing defenders.

Adam gase is also a head coach in the NFL

Watch it in slow motion the DE would have buried him 5 yards deep the lead blocker was past the DE and the lb was right behind him
And the read is the DE it’s not debatable

Pretty much agree with all of this.

Especially, on the Tucker leadback side. JJ cannot continue to be the 1st and 2nd down back. It almost looks like a prank when watching on TV with a 150 lb back.

Agree and if though it may have been a pitch he made a nice cut on a dime and got an additional six yards.

*the back is actually Pierre not Jordan.

I agree the read is the DEnd, but I don't necessarily agree it was the right read or that the DE would've blown it up. I think Jackson is deep enough and running fast enough that he gets around the DE/edge and if he does, Pierre is there to block the LB. (note Elmore is also pulling)

In slo mo I think Pierre actually blocks the DE and Jackson makes it to the edge. The OLB goes inside out (meaning his first 4 steps are to where the DEnd is currently in this frame), which imo, would've enabled Jackson to get outside, by where the #10 is visible; keeping in mind Jackosn is almost at a half sprint at this point. The play though would've only have been successful if Pierre makes a good block and Nykiem holds his; probably both unlikely.

it’s definitely not certain to say handing the ball off would've had better results, and obviously Tommy doesn't know anything beyond his gut read, but I firmly believe he should've handed the ball off.

Personal opinion on the play design, not great. I think if you're going to run a jet sweep you crash the tackle down and pull the right guard (not the LG), he would be on the DE quick and the RB takes the OLB/Safety.
