Offensive Changes

With how out of shape he looks, I really wonder if has any explosiveness when the ball is snapped.
I saw him briefly on the telecast today. Is he wearing Sean Riley’s old uniform or something?

This was just after the TD on the Carter interception and lateral. White is a mountain of a man.

I like the progress I saw today, but there was still a lot of meat left on the bone and I am still comcerned with the situational awareness of our OC and QB. In the first half there was a 3rd and 3 where it appeared as if every reciever ran a verticle route and TD had nowhere to go with the ball when there was pressure. There has to be some sort of short option there where we can at least get the first down.

Then on a 3rd and 5 with about 9 minutes to go and I think we were up 10, TD throws a deep ball to Taj with two defenders there. If the ball is thrown perfectly there, it's a great play because he had a little space, but it had to be perfect. If it's 2nd and 5 that's a great time to take that shot. On 3rd and 5, just get the first down if someone isn't wide open deep. It was hard to tell for sure, but it looked like NJ had position on his guy maybe on a slant with enough room to get the first down.

Overall though, I liked the improved running game and the way we utilized more short passes, especially in the middle of the field.
Go back and watch that long incompletion with Taj, should have been a PI call there. Defender was holding Taj's right arm all the way down the field, wasn't called.

Well, that makes our offense so much more predictable, and constantly throwing these sideways balls to the sideline receiver sets is completely dependent on having 1-on-1 talent who can beat the man across from them. Come to think of it, it sounds a lot like our offense in basketball.

Use the middle of the field! Run the slant to the slot receiver. Run a tight end over the middle. Throw the occasional post patten, not just deep balls down the sideline. Use the whole field!

they threw in the middle of the field all day, yeesh

Still, on a 3rd down, I'd like a higher percentage throw to get the 1st unless that's a blown coverage and he's wide open. With a 10 point lead 9 minutes to go with the offense stalling in the second half, just keep us on the field and the clock ticking. Then on the next set of downs try that on 2nd if we get a good gain on first down.

Rewatch the game - there were quite a few throws and catches over the middle of the field off of play action.

He was always a big kid (~340 lbs). He's still not fit after 3 years of practicing?

TIght end throwback, baby!

Yeah, that's crazy. It's easier to eat calories than burn them, but at this point I would expect him to at least be a roadgrader.

QB aside, where can the team turn on offense.

In looking at the game participation reports for the last two games what is very surprising is that while the defense has been playing 2 deep +, the offense has a much more limited participation.

Other than the starters the other WR's that have appeared in both game are Sharod Johnson, Courtney Jackson, and Justin Barron.

Isaiah Jones has played, I'm guessing on specials.

No Hendrix

15 WR's on the roster (I know some are walkons). Where is the production going to come from?

RB - IMO Tucker needs to be the feature back, JJ the swiss army knife.

TE - Mahar has played, I'm guessing on specials. Maybe they need to go even more 2Tight 2Wide and get Benson or Hackett in the slot. If they want to run bubble, do it with those guys blocking instead of NJ.

OL - Ilaoa has played, like to see him get time at Center and either move Vettorello over to RG or sit him. Need crisper snaps and need to stop the interior of the OL collapsing quickly on pass pro.

Approach, would like to see earlier throws to get the defense out of the box and stay with the chains.
Right on the money with Vettorello. My impression is that he is developing slowly. Can't be weak in the middle.

I thought I saw Hendrix in the game at the end, but only when we were running the clock out.

He is a mystery to me. Goes from projected starter to riding the bench. I hope it is just that his injuries have slowed him and that it's something he can come back from. We could really use a good WR with his size.

I saw him on the sideline after one of the plays and man he's so out of shape, If he's not gonna put on any effort then cut him! He had a who's who of offers, sad he hasn't been able to put it together but I'm not willing to count him out as of yet. I'd assume they've worked with him the best they can but he is a grown man and they can't police everything he's going to eat, the shape he looked in I cant imagine he has any explosiveness these days. Maybe we can hope he's big enough that they fall on top of him when they push him down and that would give TD some time lol, I'll hold out hope he can put it together, I'd say room him and TD together TD works out a lot eats healthy and I cant imagine Qadir eating complete trash food with the QB he's supposed to be protecting, maybe it could even give hm some motivation.

he got a pf for throwing a defender off of 22 after the whistle

I give the staff props credit for the running game. But, as you said, plenty left on the bone. We were outplayed easily statistically and won as a result of capitalizing on offensive rookie mistakes at qb esp and 15 penalties. We won't play another team this inexperienced and undisciplined.

Not his finest day...injures our AA safety in warmup and a pf in mop-up duty. I think we can put aside any expectation of meaningful minutes anytime soon

I said this in another thread. I'm beginning to wonder if there is some sort of health or medical thing going on. I would think the staff would have already had the talk with him, if it was an effort issue.

Does he play on specials? If he can knock our starting safety out of the game, he may be a great gunner.

Yea idk, maybe he had a foot injury or something where he couldn't do much cardio but with some of the pools and equipment they have today that not really an excuse, plus its not like O-Lineman are on a diet, maybe he had some red flags and thats the reason we got him, he had a whos who of offers and for him to come here and then not play is highly suspect, hoping he can turn it around

I was thinking more medical than injury. If so, it could be more complicated than simply rehabbing an injury.

Good point, didn't think about that
