I mean, I love KenPom. But his methodology on this is based in larger part on his efficiency metric and regular season success, not as much weight on post season accomplishments. Programs like Maryland, Gonzaga, Texas, Ohio State, Arizona and even Nova should not be ahead of us when going back to 1997. That’s a joke. Cuse is clearly top 10 in this time period, UConn just outside top 10 but fading fast.
The first once that jumped out to me was Maryland, but when you look at the data its much closer than I thought. The one team that seems out of place is Texas. No problem with Arizona begin ahead of us since 1997 -- the data is fairly clear to support them. Villanova as well.
Since 1997,
Top 4 Seeds = Syracuse 9, Maryland 9, Villanova 9, Gonzaga 9, Texas 6, Arizona 13, Ohio St 7
Top 3 Seeds = Syracuse 6, Maryland 6, Villanova 8, Gonzaga 7, Texas 4, Arizona 9, Ohio St 7
Final 4 - Syracuse 3, Maryland 2, Villanova 3, Gonzaga 1, Texas 1, Arizona 2, Ohio St 3
Champions - 1 to 1 to 2 to 0 to 0 to 1 to 0 to 0
# of Tournaments - Syracuse 18, Maryland 15, Villanova 16, Gonzaga 22, Texas 19, Arizona 20, Ohio St 15
