Ohh noooooo

Yep. It was hilarious. JB even came on the PA and told everyone to get off the court. This was also the same season when Hak lost his mind and chucked the ball straight up in the air to run out the clock at home against ND. The problem was that there was still like 10 seconds to go and there was a mad scramble for the ball when it came back down. Fortunately, it worked out for us and still won the game.
I’m surprised that the ’throw the ball in the air play’ with 2-3 sec left isn’t done more.

i would lol

with 7 footers I would be fine with storming Q4 victories

not complaining ...merely grieving

There are exactly two players 7 ft or taller that average more blocks per game than Kyle who is 10th in the country.

You have yet to prove why we need a 7 footer. Every time you go on this tangent you skew the facts to try and argue for needing a 7 footer even so much as totally ignoring the facts of the Carey kid vs us vs your own version. You cherry pick box scores or simply evaluate on one end of the court.

i dont think a 7 footer is an absolute necessity...but what they provide is. if we had an arinze type that can use his weight at 6'9 i would be totally thrilled. kyle is good but he gets ragdolled by bigger centers and people with ornage colored glasses on think that is getting fouled when its just being lightweight.

blocks dont tell the whole story. i think kansas, tenn, and iowa state all had a lot of success scoring in the paint and rebounding. when a big or tall center gets position on kyle, they usually have success. most of kyles blocks are weakside and not on his man...and he has had some nice blocks on opposing centers but they are still having a lot of success. bidunga had his way. carey had his career high. kansas outrebounded SU 49-29. i didnt get to watch the iowa state game but the numbers were ugly. good teams are dominating SU in the paint...and kyle is doing a good job fighting and battling ...but you cannot teach height and weight.

my real issue is the 2 backup centers. suaore and diawara offer what exactly? they arent viable options for more than a few stop gap minutes.

how can you go into a season with only 1 viable center?

imagine kyle gets in foul trouble vs tennessee...or has to sit out any games in the future.

i dont care about blocks. blocks are so overrated to me. a lot of times you dont even get the ball off a block anyway.

the defense is playing well...its fine. but i just think there are potential issues lurking...and personally, i wish the team was better at scoring in the post and defending 1 on 1 in the post as a team.

I have no idea what games you are watching but you couldn’t be more wrong about our interior defense and you continue to move the goalposts. Our interior D with Kyle and Souare has created turnovers as well and affected more shots than they blocked. They’ve also been extremely active on the offensive glass and in help defense. No one has had their way with us inside as you claim and Iowa State is the best shooting team in the country and got 30 of their 95 off turnovers.

I made it clear why you were wrong about your assessment of Kyle vs Carey and you conveniently ignored it and come back with this same old crap again.

I’ve watched every ACC opponent and not one presents major concerns at all vs our interior D. You are riding a theory that’s a lost cause and lacks any tape that proves your point. Donnie is the third Center.

Blocked shots and rim protection are vital. That’s one of the key areas of improvements with the team defense this season. JB believed blocked shots and steals were vital to our zone defense and we often were among the best in the nation in those categories, and Red clearly values them as well. I think Souare has been a solid backup and will get better.

I will acknowledge that JB kind of agrees with you about the lack of size at the center position. He told Paulie and Infanti a few weeks ago that he thought the lack of size at center could be a problem at times this season. But that we can still win without it. He was pointing out that it was one of the team’s weaknesses but not a fatal flaw.

Kyles per 40 numbers rounded off are 14 p 11 reb 4 bpg 2 apg 2 spg and also only 3.3 fpg.

We’ve had bigs run higher per 40 numbers in certain categories like scoring and rebounding but these numbers across the board are unique and hard to find a match of a center who has been as impactful in literally every single aspect of the game like Kyle has even in some of our best teams over multiple decades. He is also about 2-3 ft per game from pushing things up even more.

All of this might I add while he keeps getting better and flashing a few more post moves to be an option down low every game not just with the lob and out backs.

He's going to crush the ACC centers. The ACC defenses are not close to what we've played. 4 of the top 12 defenses he faced off against the last 4 games. Only Duke sits in that mix with Miami and UNC in the top 25 defenses.

Just to add more metrics around how great his statlines are especially offensively. Kenpom says our Strength of Schedule DRtg is #31, that's the Avg adjusted Defense of our opponents. Even with the cupcakes that's the best in the ACC and it's not even close. Next closest is Duke and NCState in the Low 50s. Virginia and Miami heralded as having elite offenses now are at #250, Chris Bell's hot shooting Cal team at #280 in that metric. Simply put no one in the ACC is playing real defenses or are top defenses themselves.

ok, cool.

i guess thats the main difference between you and me: im thinking more of like a sweet 16 matchup and you are thinking more about bottom and middle of ACC.

i suppose as the program has struggled, people keep re-adjusting their expectations and standards lower and I havent done that yet.
