OJLL 2024

THE NORTHMEN WIN!!! 13-9 over the Port Coquitlam Saints. Trey Deere Stars. 7 goals! (A "Sock" Trick plus an empty netter). It was a close game over the first two periods as it was 3-3 after the first period and 8-8 after the 2nd period. The Northmen had taken the first 2 goal lead of the game late in the 2nd period but the Saints quickly tied it. The Saints took a 9-8 lead on a power play early in the 3rd period but they didn't score again. The Northmen took at 2 goal lead with about 10 minutes to go and didn't look back. Trey Deere had 3 goals in the 2nd period on a natural hat trick and then 4 in the 3rd period. The day of rest yesterday for some of the key Northmen players, including goalie Conor O'Toole, may have made the difference. Another key was that the Saints took 8 penalties to the Northmen only 4.

Joey 1g, 7a
Trey 7g, 1a
Liam Matthews 4g, 6a

Jake Spallina and Donny Scott played the whole game and played well on defense. Jake took most of the faceoffs.

Orangeville goes on to play in the Minto Cup finals against the host Coquitlam Adanacs. It's a best 2 out of 3 starting Thursday night and continuing Friday night and, if necessary, Saturday night. These two teams have played each other many times in the Minto Cup finals.

GO ORANGE(ville)!!!

The Orangeville Northmen lose Game 2 to the Coquitlam Adanacs 9-6 and their season is over. The game was 2-2 after the first period and 6-4 Coquitlam after the second period. Coquitlam wins the Minto Cup 2 games to zero. Coquitlam was the better team. Better shooters, better defense, much better goaltending. Joey was held without a goal for the second straight game after having scored a goal in 26 straight games. It was partly due to great defense on Joey. The play-by-play announcer wondered if the fact that the Northmen played more regular season games and many more playoff games may have worn them down. Joey ends his Junior A career. Trey Deere has another season.

Joey 1a
Trey 1g
Liam Matthews 3g

Jake Spallina and Donny Scott played on defense. Donny went down early in the 2nd period with a possible injury but he came back and played the rest of the game.
