Minto Cup TV Stream - $20 per game or $125 for the whole tournament.

Minto Cup TV Stream - $20 per game or $125 for the whole tournament.

Those prices are in Canadian dollars. As I write this the Canadian dollar is 73 U.S. cents. So to purchase the whole tournament -- up to 9 games over up to 8 days -- right now it's US $91.27. [$125 seemed too much but I'm reconsidering if it is <$100.] To purchase a single game it's Can $20 or about US $14.60.

Here's the TV streaming website -- Minto Cup | Jr Adanac TV

The Minto Cup website is -- The 2024 Minto Cup

The format appears to be:
1. 3 days of round robin play among the 4 teams, 2 games a day -- Saturday thru Monday
2. the 2nd and 3rd place team play a semi-final game on Tuesday
3. The winner of the semi-final plays the 1st place team in a best of 2 out of 3 series on Thursday, Friday and (if necessary) Saturday

First game for the Orangeville Northmen is tomorrow (Saturday) at 7pm ET, 4pm PT

8. Finn Thomson

Team: Mimico Mountaineers
Position: Forward
YOB: 2003
College: Syracuse University
NLL Draft Eligible: 2026

Finn Thomson became Mimico’s all-time career points leader earlier this year, a record that Graeme Gair owned since 1966. While that name may not mean much to most, even though the Gairs have long and storied history in the sport, the fact that he jumped modern-day Mounties like Jonathan Donville, Thomas McConvey and older brother Tanner Thomson, well, that’s clearly a significant statistical milestone no matter what generation you’re from. This year, Thomson was one of only four players to (officially) surpass 100 points during the regular season. In a heated edition of provincial playoffs, only Joey Spallina had more points than Thomson’s 68 in 14 games. And like Spallina, Thomson was laughably left off the OJLL’s end-of-year all-star selections, not nominated for a single award either. Insulting, maybe, but 60 years from now when another generation looks back and sees Finn Thomson’s name still just ahead of Graeme Gair in the record books, none of the bullshit that went on in Ontario this summer will mean a thing to that GTA kid hoping to make his own mark on the sport.

4. Trey Deere

Team: Orangeville Northmen
Position: Forward
YOB: 2004
College: Syracuse University
NLL Draft Eligible: 2027

Even if you barely pay attention to junior ball and don’t follow a single Jr. A team on social, 100% you’ve still had about a dozen Trey Deere goals force their way into your feeds over the past two summers. Boring, ordinary and average are words that don’t exist in Trey Deere’s world. No matter the on-floor situation, Deere is capable of throwing down a goal that will completely deflate the opposition, the other team wondering if their coach will be pissed if they ask for his autograph after the game. His movement is unmatched, his baiting skills are Jedi level, and his ability to turn a nothing shift into some last-second crazy that goes viral before the game ends is what makes Trey Deere junior lacrosse’s most electric goal scorer going. The kid scores quantity too, few anywhere in the country coming close to the stats he’s piled up since arriving in Orangeville.

1. Joey Spallina

Team: Orangeville Northmen
Position: Forward
YOB: 2003
College: Syracuse University
NLL Draft Eligible: 2026

We’re going to be fully transparent here and admit that prior to this year’s playoffs, Willem Firth was our obvious #1. Even if Toronto tanked in the first round, how could he not be? Well, Joey Spallina statistically skewered that plan after having an all-time playoff performance for the Orangeville Northmen, which included an opening round series sweep of Firth’s Beaches. After Orangeville’s Game 7 win in the OJLL Finals, there was no debate, Spallina would have to be pushed up to our top spot. Left off the league’s regular season all-star selections (as voted by OJLL team reps), not even apparently worthy of a second-team spot, Spallina’s 86 points in 13 playoff games and coming soon first (and only) appearance at the magnificent Minto Cup, was a middle finger flip for the ages. Spallina has a howitzer like few others, has fantastic footwork, a darting change of direction, and is both clinical and creative with the ball in his twig. His passport may make him an American, but from mid-May to late-August, Spallina is about as Canadian as you can get.

Of particular additional note and interest is #35 Ryan Colsey (UVa) who plays with the Coquitlam Adanacs, the host of the Minto Cup and apparently Orangeville's primary competitor for the Cup. (More fuel to fire up the 4 SU players.) Orangeville and Coquitlam each have 8 players in this Top 50. A 3rd team in the Minto Cup - Port Coquitlam Saints has 4, and the Raiders Lacrosse Club has 1.

35. Ryan Colsey

Team: Coquitlam Adanacs
Position: Forward
YOB: 2004
College: University of Virginia
NLL Draft Eligible: 2026

"He was in Coquitlam regularly while playing for Team USBOXLA at the Trevor Wingrove Memorial Tournament from U13 all the way up to U17. Ryan Colsey was often if not always the best player on the floor. So, it really shouldn’t be that big of a surprise that Colsey, especially during the BCJALL playoffs, has again, been one of the best players on the floor in Coquitlam. The 6’3”, 200+ pound Colsey is crafty at creating space for himself in tight, but can also rip from range when he has even just a sliver of space. Colsey sat second in BCJALL playoff goals (15) and had one of the best performances of the playoffs anywhere in Canada when finished five times in the finals-clinching Game 3 win over Port Coquitlam. Orangeville is bringing some high-level American ball players to Coquitlam this week, but the Adanacs have a pretty damn good one themselves in Colsey."

The Orangeville Northmen rebounded from a first game loss with a decisive win tonight 13-6 over the Raiders. Orangeville led after the first 8-1 and after the second 10-5.

Joey 3g, 6a
Trey 1g, 2a
Liam Sanderson (Penn St.) 5g, 3a [he only had an assist in game 1]

Jake Spallina played as he did last night taking most faceoffs and playing defense
Donny Scott played for the first time since Game 1 of the 2nd Round of the OJLL playoffs. He played a full game, played well and even took 2 shots on offense.

Orangeville's next game is tomorrow night at 10pm ET against the host team Coquitlam Adanacs.

I think Orangeville has to wi by 11 tonight to take over 1st place
If POCO wins tonight and Orangeville wins or loses looks like we will be playing POCO in the semis (one game) to get to the finals (3 game series)

In the first game tonight the Poco Saints beat the Raiders 12-5. The Raiders end the round robin phase 0-3 and are eliminated from The Minto Cup. Therefore Orangeville can do no worse than play in the semi-final game tomorrow night. 10pm ET.

Because Orangeville would have to win tonight's game by a ton of goals (reportedly at least by 8) to end up in 1st place and avoid the semi-final game, the Northmen are resting their top offensive players tonight in preparation to tomorrow night's game, including Joey Spallina and Trey Deere. Also, Liam Matthews & Bowie Horsman. In goal tonight for Orangeville is their backup goalie Lindyn Hill.

Orangeville wins their third game tonight 12-9 over the host Coquitlam Adanacs. And the Northmen did it without their top 4 offensive players - Joey Spallina, Trey Deere, Liam Matthews & Bowie Horsman (see my prior post above). The Northmen played a spirited hard hitting game and led the whole way after an early 2-1 deficit. Backup goalie Lindyn Hill, the Northmen's starting goalie for much of the regular season before they acquired Conor O'Toole at the trade deadline, was in goal tonight and was outstanding. With this game, 3 teams ended round robin play with 2-1 records but Coquitlam won the #1 seed based on goals, primarily based on their 17-7 Sunday night over the Saints. (Orangeville needed to win tonight by 8 goals to get the #1 seed.) [Sorry Laxfanshutt, the tiebreaker is not goal differencial but is a formula based on the percentage of GF over GF+GA in games against the teams that have same records.] As a result, Orangeville plays in the semi-final game tomorrow night (10pm ET) against the Port Coquitlam (Poco) Saints, who they lost to in the first game 12-7. That first game might have been one of the poorest games the Northmen played all season. Tomorrow night they will be the more rested team having taken advantage of knowing after the first game tonight that they'd likely be playing tomorrow. The winner of tomorrow night's semi-final game plays Coquitlam in a best 2 out of 3 finals starting Thursday night.
