This is D1 college football. You can't just keep kids that aren't good enough.

Some of these guys are offered based on potential and size, and then as their soph/junior tape comes out they just don't turn into a high level D1 athlete.

I can't believe they would recruit someone, get a commitment and then back out after the kid had a not so great senior year.

That would go against everything Fran Brown talks about.

I'm betting he wants to get in with PSU after their coaching change, like OttoinGrotto suggested upthread.

I would tend to believe something other than a lack luster tape was at play for Fran to cut bait. Maybe grades, maybe off the field stuff, maybe him "committing" while actively courting other schools in a deceptive matter, etc. We'll never know and Fran will never tell but it does go against what Fran preaches to cut ties solely based on film thus one would surmise that to not be the true reason.
