Single biggest open issue on the team. Servais and Adams are known, Heckel has past starting experience. The group is versatile with players cross trained on multiple positions.

This is my wag, but it could go all sorts of directions.

I have a feeling that this will be a group of starters with two or three swing interior and exterior players. The obvious depth guys would be Vettorello and DDavis.

Are there two ACC OT's on this team? That is an enormous key to the season.

Have to trust that there is.

I’m sure Dino has 3 OTs ready to go.

Came here expecting a convo (and pics?) of Wives And Girlfriends.
Left disappointed. :p

I prefer the term S.W.A.G. - Scientific Wild-Ass Guess

Has Vett had ANY run at C for us??
I don't recall that, but could be mistaken.

It is a little worrisome, but everything we think of on this board, Dino has thought of it way before us. He is the type of guy who will do whatever it takes to make sure we keep this train moving. He saw the need to bring in more experienced OL and has done so. I am worried, but confident that we have the right guy to deal with this possible weakness.

I'll be watching all segments of the team to see how the coaches put this year's team together but am confident in the coaches and their system. We have talented, strong, and, most especially, fast kids that will be on the field for SU this fall. I'm far more excited about our potential than worried about any particular squad.

I think the defense will be Dino's best so far, that Devito will thrive in a system designed for him, that our RB's & WR's are two of our strengths, and our linemen on both sides will make us proud. The young OL will be a pleasant surprise.

Football is a dynamic sport so the record may not match last year's success, but we're going to be competitive with the best teams we'll face. It wasn't long ago we struggled to be bowl eligible and think our expectations are much better this year. Be happy...

I feel confident Alexander is starting at one of the tackle positions. I don’t think Dino would take a grad transfer unless he considered him a lock to start.

Adams has to be considered a lock at start at RG. He has even made some all conference teams.

Heckel has experience and very good athletic ability. He is starting somewhere.

And of course Servais is starting somewhere. But where? And why did he lose so much weight? Does that play into the position he is playing in the fall?

I think it does. I think he expects to play tackle and wants maximum mobility in that role. So I am leaning towards him playing at LT with Alexander at RT. That means Heckel is the C.

That leaves the LG spot open. By all accounts, Dakota Davis had a strong spring and I think has positioned himself well to win it. That kid can block and is strong as a bull.

The wild card here is Tisdale. Dino says he won’t take a JUCO transfer unless he thinks they can start. But there are a bunch of examples where we have taken JUCO transfers and they didn’t start their first year with the program. If he graduated early and was able to enroll for the spring 2019 semester, I might have picked him to start but I think it is really tough to pick up the offense in so little time. I like him a lot and think he will start next year but I think this year is his time to acclimate himself to P5 football and the SU scheme.

Nice thing I noticed is he's a RS Sophomore. So if he doesn't start this year he can be a two-year starter probably at RT.

And if he starts this year he'll be a 3 yr starter. Fun with Math.

No need for a rude stupid comment man. I assumed he was a junior since he was JUCO and was happy to see he has three years of eligibility.

The thing that worries me the most is seeing a RFr and Fr listed as the starting tackles. Now, I know that's probably smoke... but if either of those guys is listed as a starter going into Liberty...hooo leee shhhh... it's going to be a white knuckle ride...

Saw an interview from acc media day where Dino was asked about the DEs and he said he had to pull them off the field in the spring so that the offense could move the ball. Yeah, the starting DEs are amongst the best out there, but that’s not promising for our OL hopes. If only we Had more depth on the OL.

Yeah almost 100 percent that they don’t start at tackle. Serv and the Sr we just got will.

Yep...probably true but imagine if a Freshman wins this position outright? I know they won't but this day will happen soon and because they are talented, not because of injuries or out of desperation.

Lots of teaching to be done at this position and I'm curious on which young linemen are busting their humps lifting and learning.

I agree but as one article said earlier they couldn’t move the ball cause our ends are so damn good which is good and bad. Good is keep them practicing against the best and they won’t play someone all year as good and the bad could be they get beat so bad they won’t mentally recover similar to Whig his jr and Sr year. I just know that very few frosh redshirt or not wins battle outright that early. Even in the big programs with the 5* kids very few. I want jr and Sr starting like at bc. They are physically and mentally ready for the job.

I would love to see real push in goal line packages. It’s been rare as all hell in the Dino Babers era.

A thousand likes to original post here Go.
Here is my “ Don’t be shocked if”..... Vettorello starting LT on Aug. 31.

Where Servais plays definitely will have a trickle down effect on the rest of the starting OL unit.

Lots of question marks:
  • Does Servais play tackle, or center?
  • Are either Alexander or Servais good fits to play LT?
  • Who's T3 -- Tisdale? Vetterello? Red?
  • Is Vetterello ready to start, or does he need some developmental PT to get his feet wet?
  • How good is Pat Davis [after missing the majority of spring practice]?
  • Does Heckel belong in the starting lineup?
  • Can Dakota Davis pass block?
  • Is Tisdale ready to contribute, or does he need seasoning?
  • Who's the backup center, if Vetterello lands at OT?
  • Can we field a reasonable two-deep from the components on hand?

I'm not suggesting that he CAN'T do it, but it will probably be harder for him to play on the interior of the line at Center at 275 than it was at 295 last year.

Agree with Tomcat that he lost the weight for a reason, and only shifted "back" to Center due to Heckel getting injured in the spring.

But at the end of the day, may the best players rise to the top.

Our 2nd string OL this year is better than many 1st string OL's we put out over the last 15-20 years
That's a bit of a stretch unless you have first-hand information.
