One Coach Name I like

Everyone realizes that if Autry gets fired, we probably lose Freeman, White, Kiyan at minimum. Double edged sword.

We have to have a coach who can actually coach, or it doesn't matter.

That's why I asked in another thread, is there an assistant we could bring in who has the name recognition to command respect from these kids, and persuade them to give us another season?

Freeman might be gone either way. Freshmen White and Kiyan aren’t going to put this team into the tournament. A HC is going to have to find impactful portal transfers and who is going to want to come to a program with a coach that even the media is ranking as most likely to be fired? Transfers come in for one, maybe two years. They want to play for winning teams, that go to the tournament, and develop them for the best chances at an nBa career. What part of that screams “Red?”

He needs an asst to coach for him, more-so than impactful transfers. We likely won’t get great transfers, get a great asst.

If Fran was a basketball coach, you think he could come in and pitch the recruits and and their rents to stay?

The answer is probably.

I bet Hodgson could probably do that as well.

The right coach will know how to sell the program.

Since i'm resigned to the inevitability that Red will be in charge for a year Three, i agree—this would be ideal. Get two people to augment the staff: a top defensive guru, and a big man wizard.

But, realistically, isn't one of the coaches supposed to be a D guy? Who can we attract, into a probably lame duck scenario? Would Arinze leave Siena for what might only be one year at SU?

Too bad they don't have a billionaire supporter, who could ask JW what it takes to buy Red out this year.

We need established. Enough of this start-up garbage

I hope I'm wrong, but if Kiyan wasn't Melo's kid, I would only expect someone of his talent & skill level to be coming off the bench.

Michael Carter-Williams, a Rookie of the Year two years later, couldn't start for us as a freshman. Dion Waiters - how many years in the NBA? - couldn't start for us as a freshman.

This is essential, or he'll just get fired a year later.

He can score and isn’t afraid. Wants to take the big shot. Great shooter… handle, defense and strength need improvement. Lightyears better than like a Choppa.
He is one of the best players on a top team nationally, and more often than not, leads them in scoring. He is far more than just Melo’s son

Where is this coming from? On the various sites I reviewed today, he averaged like 13ppg, with 30% from 3. His Team Melo numbers were different, with some big scoring outbursts, but only with high shot volume (24-30 shots) and still with low percentages. Kinda seems like having Dad’s name on the front of the jersey gave him license, but he wasn’t very efficient.

Positives on him are in his varied approaches to finding/getting shots. He seems advanced, with the moves, maybe In the same way that Buddy created space for himself without being explosive or quick. I hope that translates to a productive career for us but I don’t think he’s “lightyears better“ than Moore. Not even sure what “lightyears” of disparity would look like! The first example,e that jumped into my head was Derrick Coleman and Derek Brower!

That's what I've read, too. He can find openings to score at 3 levels, but his shot selection is too forced. He seems to see the floor well, makes good cuts to get open, and is capable of making the right pass.

He was the mvp of the hoophall game and the recent capitol game mvp vs paul vi. He is their best pure scorer. Also don’t believe they have lost since he returned from injury. He’s a combo guard, Moore is strictly a shooter. Find a dif recruit to hate…

Not sure where you're seeing "hate." The second paragraph in my post was positives on Kiyan, and 'defense' of our current player Moore. Your hyperbole in characterizing Kiyan as "lightyears" better than Moore was the point.

As i said, and as was discussed elsewhere—there's conflicting or inaccurate stats on Kiyan, and i was asking where you got your assessment that he's "a great shooter." I'm seeing that he's averaging less than 14ppg, on <30% 3pt shots. And, various writers commented on his showcase and Team Melo games, saying that he had a lot of points, but having to take a lot of shots with a low percentage to get the big numbers. I guess the media hates him, too?

Carmelo's my favorite SU player. Accusing me of hating his son, before he's even done anything... that's dim.

So if he’s one of, if not usually the leading scorer on a great team, and only avging 14, that’s bad? Should he score 50 like womack, playing against jv teams? To criticize his ppg without watching him play in games is ridiculous.

You’re confusing things.
Criticism of a player is a different matter than challenging your hyperbolic assessment, an assessment that contradicts the statistics and also diminishes a current player.

Asking for a source of your data, when it has been discussed that some of the websites are inaccurate, is not criticizing the player.

Suggesting that a player might not be a “great shooter“ [yet] because he only shoots 29% from 3…in high school… isn’t saying he’s “bad,” it‘s more about disputing your “lightyears better” assessment, which I thought was “ridiculous.”

Objectivity, friend. That’s all I’m after. And again—if you have access to better/different stats, please share them so maybe we can all get as super-pumped as you.

Both would have likely transferred out of Syracuse if not for the sit out rule

People could see Dion's offensive talent immediately.
But MCW barely played 10 minutes a game for us as a frosh.
If there was a portal back then, he would have ended up at Temple or Villanova, not Duke.
