Orange Out on Friday vs Louisville

" Until they are ready to go" ?! What does that mean? It takes longer to make Orange colored uniforms?

They are importing the Orange fabric from the far East by barge.

Yeah. You're so blinded by your opinion being the only opinion that even when people in the demographic say it they must be lying. We get it. A bunch of people like them. A bunch don't. But the people who actually have to wear them don't count...

You don't get it at all. It's one thing to say you like something, it's another to say you like one thing better than the other. How much you want to bet that if the exact same style uniform was shown to those people, but with orange pants and helmet, they would say the EXACT same thing?

So why not give us something everyone will like? It's not that hard. And the FACT that so many SU fans. SU alumni, national media, non SU fans, etc., tells you something is wrong. Unis have been changed many times over the years, but NEVER has there been this kind of negative reaction by many factions.

But keep thinking it's just a bunch of old farts complaining about nothing.

The pocket schedule had this as an orange out all year they should have promoted it better. My own guess on uniform Friday: Orange helmet ,blue jersey, orange pants

I don't believe a word that comes out of Giansante's mouth, so him claiming that everyone but the fans likes them doesn't do anything for me. Did Axe ask him why the Orange ones aren't ready, or why SU/Nike is only selling the blue since they know how to market to the demographics? I don't know what you guys saw at MetLife, but on the Quad and at the MD game I counted two people wearing the new jerseys.

He's probably the guy responsible for the switch and is looking to cover his epic fail job.

And we're fresh out of orange pants. Oh Lord

Giving "us" something everyone will like is pretty much an unrealistic request. Just based on the arguments we have see on this board between the likes and don't likes.

That kind of would necessitate "everyone" being involved in the process. Which would pretty much result in gridlock and nothing getting done.

Sounds familiar...

Congratulations to Nike for starting a generational war over our school color. Who knew that young people dislike the color orange? I'll have to remember that.

Interesting tidbit from media ops tonight: Captains do not pick uniforms each week. Players learn what they're wearing late in week.
Of course they don't, their opinions don't matter, they're fn cattle.

It's a goddamn talking point by the outnumbered blue supporters.

Some assjack on the hill decided that no ones opinion at the school should matter either, so they sold out to Nike for more $$$$, leaving the SUAD also as cattle.

And the fact that I'm 44 doesn't mean that I don't know what's hip and cool, that's fn asinine. It also shouldn't mean that my opinion of how the school should be representing itself in front of the largest television audiences it will get all year in the 12 or 13 football games, shouldn't be listened to on the hill.

The 2 biggest marketing points for the school are the block ORANGE 'S'...and the Fn color ORANGE!!!

And apparently they've dropped 1 and didn't tell anyone.

Just keep the blue block S on the white helmet, the blue jerseys and tell everyone the S is for State...as in penn st's jv.

Apparently that's where all our recruits wanted to go, someplace where they can wear dark blue. They're just kidding themselves otherwise.

I find it odd with the uniform change that there is next to nothing out on the market that you can buy. There are basically 3 items. If this is for marketing, doesn't the revenue from jersey sale and t-shirt sale become a factor? As well as the free advertising from the people like me that wear them.

There is a Orange T-Shirt, Grey T-Shirt and a glorified T-Shirt/Jersey in Blue.

Yep. I don't get it. "Something everyone will like" doesn't exist. Your opinion and my opinion don't matter as much as the players/recruits. I get that it hurts to not be taken into consideration given how much time we spend in the minutia of Syracuse sports - but I'll say it again: uni's are not for fans, they are for the players.

I'm not even defending these uni's. I don't love them, wish there was more orange, and hate the numbers. I am defending the right of the university to do what it thinks it needs to do to compete. You're defending your right to your memories of tradition and your ability to "turn on the tv and recognize who is playing".

I think more orange won't satisfy the people who want to attach their own history and memories of the team with the 2014 players and recruits. It's selfish.

The negative reaction and outcry does prove that Nike did a poor job reaching all the demographics in a fan base. But if the primary demographic it was designed for, likes it - then it's met it's chief obligation - whether you and I like it or not.

Lastly, to be great - to reach for a new place in CFB - requires risk. I applaud the athletic department for risking the ire of fans in both uni's and the MetLife deal. Takes balls. I like the risk taking. Could play it safe and roll out the same old stuff with the same old results.

I'll bet that if we wait five years and re-introduce the traditional uniforms the kids will think they're cool.

My opinion:

I attended 3 of the 4 games.

Nova game, all blue, orange helmets Grade C
I like the helmets and the unis weren't as bad as I thought they'd be, but numbers were nearly impossible to read.

CM game, all white, white helmet. Grade B
The white unis were okay, as I suspected, but I'm not a fan of the white helmets. With any combo. Too bland.

Maryland game, all blue, white helmet. Grade
One of the worst uni combos in SU history. Almost no orange. Hope I never see them again.

Notre Dame game, all grey, orange helmet. Grade A. I thought I might like the grey, and I did. Not a fan of grey duct tape numbers on the hoop unis, but these were sharp up close. Nice off uni.

Still favor the McNabb era unis over anything else. And all blues we worse last year are much better than the new blues.

Take the new orange helmets, the blue jerseys with white lettering so we can read them and orange pants or at least blue pants with bright orange trim similar to the helmets and I'd be OK with it. It's flashy so the kids will like it and traditional enough that the fans would like it.

That's probably true. Everything cycles.

That's a good point actually. For the last several years, they've basically only sold a blue jersey...and an ORANGE jersey.

So why does Nike make an orange jersey available (most years) if white, grey, etc, are so much more popular, as they suggest?

I must be naive, and I am considering starting a new thread about it, but I am shocked and disappointed by the fan reaction on syracusefan.com to this and Syracuse as a football program this year... it's honestly deflating. When I joined this board after lurking for a while, because I was pumped to interact with knowledgable, supportive & positive Syracuse fans (the antithesis of syracuse.com). Somehow, the uniform debate has changed from personal opinions to bashing and undercutting the Syracuse football team, and the athletic department as a whole. Syracuse tries to do something proactive in the form of an Orange Out, which is not all that shocking, different color outs happen at all levels of competition across the nation. Instead of syracusefan.com being pumped and excited to jump in on something that might turn out to be a boost for a struggling team, there is a multi-page thread full of people snickering at the idea and coming up with different colors that they plan on wearing, or would wear, to the game if they were going. Awesome job under cutting the program, I'm sure it's a proud moment for you. The jackassery is at an all time high.

You still don't get it. Everytime you say the players like them, you don't get it.

Hasn't Giansante been the one saying the players pick the combinations?

As have several posters who claim to know these things.

I'm a Syracuse fan I shouldn't have to be told to wear orange to games -- that thought has gone through since the yearly orange outs began a few years ago. I am considering joining the no-orange movement at games to show my displeasure.
