Orange Out on Friday vs Louisville

Huh? I'm wrong?

Don't know. But when someone says they like then, how does anyone know they wouldn't like something else (orange pants) better? I like $100 but I'd like $200 more.

I must be naive, and I am considering starting a new thread about it, but I am shocked and disappointed by the fan reaction on syracusefan.com to this and Syracuse as a football program this year... it's honestly deflating. When I joined this board after lurking for a while, because I was pumped to interact with knowledgable, supportive & positive Syracuse fans (the antithesis of syracuse.com). Somehow, the uniform debate has changed from personal opinions to bashing and undercutting the Syracuse football team, and the athletic department as a whole. Syracuse tries to do something proactive in the form of an Orange Out, which is not all that shocking, different color outs happen at all levels of competition across the nation. Instead of syracusefan.com being pumped and excited to jump in on something that might turn out to be a boost for a struggling team, there is a multi-page thread full of people snickering at the idea and coming up with different colors that they plan on wearing, or would wear, to the game if they were going. Awesome job under cutting the program, I'm sure it's a proud moment for you. The jackassery is at an all time high.

Everything is going to be okay.

That's fine and true of every UNI ever worn. Could always be better.

My point was that if the goal was to design something the players and recruits like and they do, then Nike has succeeded at their primary objective.

You may argue that the should think fan first, or that there is a way to thread the needle and find something everyone will be okay with - that's your opinion (and the predominate one on these boards it seems). But that's a different objective them what Nike tried to do.

Again - it took balls to go in this direction, and I don't love everything about the look - but I get that I'm not who they were designed for and that it took guts to roll with this design.

I wear orange for every game and I'm in the stands before the team comes out of the tunnel and standing and cheering when they do. If everyone did that and the stands were full you'd be amazed on how this would help recruiting. SU is just trying to market their product and they will never please all the people...ever.

They weren't.

No one on this board is saying that the uniforms, coaches, or the morons in the SUAD is stopping them from attending games, or supporting the team. Most fans who go to the Dome wear more Orange than the team on the field, which is why you see the reaction here and other places online.

Do you think there would be this much discussion after 4 weeks if the majority of people felt that these new designs were underwhelming? If these are marketed towards a younger generation, wouldn't we see people buying and wearing them?

Maybe - but 18 year olds tend to have a money-flow issue. How many kids do you hang out with that are in the 16-20 age range, largely urban in culture?

My wife teaches at an inner-city high school. Kids all have iPhones, Beats and KD/Lebron/Kobes. None of them are wearing SU football jerseys. She tells me that a number wear SU hoops gear.

I walked around campus before the Maryland game (Skytop/Schine/Quad) and counted 2 people wearing the new jerseys.

Sure it's a limited sample, but I'm not spending my free time taking a survey at Destiny. I'm happy to hear what others observe.

That runs contrary to every report from the AD's office and from Nike.

You sure? So Nike spends millions every year to put out new uni designs for the purpose of having something the kids like?

To be fair, the football team has never really worn much orange, at least not in my lifetime. More than they currently do certainly, with the orange pants being worn every game I guess, but never an orange jersey (minus that one debacle).

They've worn orange pants from 1949-1973, and from 1982-recently. They've always had orange helmets, except for 1974-76 during the Maloney Era.

So I feel like if it was required that every week at least one of pants, jersey, helmet was orange, it wouldn't be all that dissimilar from years past.

Yep. New unis should not be getting this much negative pub. Never ever has this happened. And it's not just a few old crotchety guys in this forum. It's negative articles from national media sources, negative tweets by media and others, alumni writing letters to the editor, etc. These things usually die down after a day or two. Just the enormous amount of negative reaction and negative press says this was done all wrong.

IMO, if they wore orange helmets and pants every week, I could live with gray jerseys once in a while.
