OT: Clark's Ale House Coming Back

hey any word on the opening? Saw a pic with the sign going up in front. Anyone know? Gotta head downtown tonight and would love to get me some Clarks action!
Maybe in a few months, still working on the renovations. It's been slow, I walk bye it every day.

thanks man. Yeah when it comes to renovations, the best laid plans can go off course...something else to look forward to summer for!

It really is a great old building. So much character.

One of my best friends was a bartender down there back in the 90s. Had my first Hop Devil. I wasn't ready for it back then, but I was never the same after and my craft beer journey has been on a glorious path ever since.

Can't deny that Clarky's was a pioneer in the craft beer movement in Syracuse. Plus it was just such a pleasant place to just sit and chill out and actually talk face to face to your companion(s) instead of trying to converse while staring at a TV screen. Hope the new place has the same ambiance although I'll bet the proliferation of smart phones changes the mood of things a bit. Still, it will be great to have it back. The sooner, the better!

I'm a pro at the bull-horn game. I challenge all-comers!

Fun times there...always great to meet board members there on Friday night before the first kickoff. It helped to overcome the crazy that accompanied following GRob coached teams a few years back.

Is it like a part of the Ale House franchise? Like the ones down in florida? If so, great wings.

Nein! Nein! Nein! Ray Clark is the sole proprietor of the late, great Clarks's Ale House in Syracuse. Soon to rise from a self-induced business coma of several years. No frickin' way he is a franchise!

Keep an eye out on this board for a date when he opens and come on down to check it out. You won't be disappointed! And bring some more of your Canadian friends--always welcome!

Geez, it's been taking forever. When did they close, in 2010? I have to believe that someone in the family is not fully committed to going back to work. Renovations don't take this long.

I kind of get the same feeling--seems like any renovations should have been completed long ago. But at the same time, I assume he is paying rent even if the place isn't open yet--that should be incentive enough to open as quickly as possible. And apparently he ran into permit issues with the city over a dumbwaiter from the basement kitchen to the main floor--sounds dumb, but who knows? That shouldn't prevent him from serving brewskis, though.

Come on. Ray! Open up the damn place already!

It's not part of the Florida Ale house franchises but those bars/restaurants are awesome too. I watched the Superbowl at the Alehouse on international dr in Orlando and it was an amazing party.

Thats where I go! Quite the fun place for me (and I don't even drink and its still fun). Always packed.

Canadian? Of Ukrainian ancestry? And you don't drink? (Not even a little?) Oh, the shame of it all! ;);)

They had a segment on Channel 9 tonight. Now projecting an early May opening. Damn dumbwaiter is holding up the opening--lots of apparent safety issues to address.

I was their first bartender hired back when they first opened. Worked there 4 years. I started bartending for Ray's dad Doug Clark back in the 70's when he owned Dougs Place The Working Man's Tavern on Carrier Circle. And then Doug opened the Fish Fry's. The Clarks do it right.

Used to hang at Doug's in HS & SU. Still have this classic t-shirt:

That is Doug and I on that shirt.
Yup, that is me on the left as you look at it. I'm holding up the heavy side. I remember when we went to the artist on Fayette street who did the drawing.

Encouraging news: I drove by the place around 11:30 AM yesterday--lots of activity with people coming and going. Lights were on inside. Maybe it will in fact open soon.
Sure as hell hope so! It would be great if there was a soft opening in time for the Spring game...
