OT: don't want to jump to conclusions

Think you're right. He'll find a job as an o-line coach. He was OC in New Orleans only by title - that was Brees/Payton running the show.

Quite shocking he has made it this far given his coaching tree and history, to be honest.

So you are saying that he was collecting a (large) check as OC from an NFL team without contributing or learning anything, or paying his dues along with not knowing anything to earn the job in the first place.

All at the same time there were more qualified and far better candidates out there for the job. Got it.

Interesting, can I get that gig?

EDIT: I bet he sat in meetings for several years and just said "Sean, Drew, I concur" like Leonardo DiCaprio said when doctors asked his opinion in Catch Me if You Can.

Nah when he was coach here our special teams sucked. Idk maybe im not gettin what your saying? Lol
London is on the hot seat for us. It's "bowl game or box your desk." Marrone did a good job in righting your ship, and if the Bills can him, it would be interesting to see if he'd be interested in righting ours. The cupboard wouldn't be bare, it's just not living up to expectations. And all he'd have to do to update his wardrobe is change those "S"s to "V"s.

Ahhh I see.

London is one heck of a recruiter who can't coach worth beans, I hope George McDonald (OC) shows he can coach this year as good as he can recruit... Sortive like Chad Morris in Clumpson.

Not sure how stating an opinion due to new ownership can be related to sour grapes and wishing someone to fail. Some people on here make things too personal sometimes.

You think they are going to fire him mid preseason do you? It's only year two, with a young QB. I'll be pretty surprised if he gets canned after this season, let alone anytime soon.
Yeah whoever the new owner is will want to bring in his guys. New GM, New President, New Head coach. If Doug makes the playoffs its tougher to replace him but odds are this is Doug's last year in Buffalo cause I don't see that as a playoff team.

The NFL is cold anyway, coaches have gotten fired after one year. Mike Mularky got 1 year in Jacksonville and was fired. Rob Chudzinski got 1 year in Cleveland. Cam Cameron got 1 year in Miami. Jim Mora Jr in Seattle and Hue Jackson also guys fired after just 1 year. The list is endless. The fact Doug is getting 2 years he should feel blessed.

That was going to be my very next point. When is the last time the NFL was fair? It's a cold hearted business

If Doug is let go the guys who are going to be hurting are all of the assistants who left with him. Doug will be fine as he will have four years of pay at a very good level something around 3m per year so he is set and he will get another job as an assistant in the league. The rest of the guys are going to be hurting.

Marrone and Whaley wanted to go all in on this year. It was their choice. Setting aside that Manuel stinks and they don't see it, I am baffled about what he sees in Jeff Tuel. Thad Lewis is gambling on every pass now that he's third string, nothing to lose. Guy has CJ Spiller returning kicks in the preseason? Demoting Robert Woods for Chris Hogan?

Bills Qbs 60 qb rating overall in the preseason. Banking on great WR depth doesn't mean . I wish they'd look at successful teams. No ones getting it done with good WR and bad QB

His head coaching career will be done with 1 good year of QB out of 6.

Everybody is so quick to judge. I'm glad as a Giants fan we didn't make a decision on Eli prior to his 2nd regular season, because, he was historically terrible up until that point.

Buffalo would be a tough place for anyone to win. And I'm not an apologist. All I think is that they should at least be given this season to determine where they fall. Lot of brilliant football minds on this board, must be a lot of millionaires out there.

the thing is, Eli Manning actually is terrible.

He's definitely a mixed bag, I'll give you that. Furthermore, for whatever reasons, last season and this pre season have been extremely sub par. But there's been greatness in his career, and, I won't lean on the Super Bowls as examples bc those were team efforts.

All I'm saying is football takes time, it's a rarity that a rookie player or head coach exude greatness, gotta give em time to prove themselves IMO.

he's been good in the playoffs. reminds me of jack morris (although Jack Morris was better in the regular season)

the thing is, Eli Manning actually is terrible.

You mean the Eli Manning who holds Giants franchise records for most passing yards, touchdown passes and completed passes in a career, and the NFL record for most fourth-quarter touchdown passes in a season? The Eli Manning who led the Giants to victory in Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI? The Eli Manning who was also named Most Valuable Player in each Super Bowl, becoming one of five quarterbacks in history to have been given this honor twice?

Is that the Eli who is terrible, or did you mean Payton?

And for the record, no, I am not a Giants fan.

that eli manning yes. if he has a good year this year, maybe he can pass jake delhomme or jason campbell or brian griese in career regular season passer rating

Marrone would get a college job if he was fired from the Bills. I do see his time being cut short because of an ownership change unless he goes 8-8 or 9-7. However, being in the division with Patriots really hurts his chances at surviving a post-Brady New England team.

At worst Marrone would get an OC job in the NFL. Bill Parcells vouched for Marrone. Marrone is a Sean Payton guy who is a Bill Parcells guy.

Buffalo looks like the 3rd best team in the AFC East right now behind New England and the NY Jets. Manuel is a bottom top 10 starting QB in the NFL and that and a new ownership will be Marrone's undoing.

If Marrone had a good QB I think he could do damage as I think he can gameplan and divise with the best coaches in pro or college football.

To quote a resident genius,

"No ones getting it done with good WR and bad QB"

And yet a team with a terrible QB has won two superbowls.

What's up with that?

asterisk

manning was good the last time they won. he doesn't suck every year. just most years. when he doesn't suck, they win it all because the giants have some deal with the devil

That seals it, watch for a lifetime extension announcement in the next couple of weeks.

The last two presidential election cycles(4 years 2008 and 2012) the Giants-Patriots have made the Super Bowl. I am already going to bet it next year.

Eli Manning is not an elite quarterback as he has missed the playoffs too many seasons for him to be a considered a top 5 QB, but the guy will make the HOF because of his 2 Super Bowl MVPs. I wouldn't want him as my quarterback if I wanted to be a consistently good team, but in a playoff environment win or go home his more money than his brother Peyton.

Peyton is the great regular season QB and mediocre post season QB while Eli is the opposite mediocre regular season QB and great post season QB.

Peyton Manning = Roger Clemens minus Manning using steroids
Eli Manning = Curt Schilling doesn't have the numbers of Clemens but has been absolute money in the playoffs and that will get him into the HOF.

id have troy aikman and Eli say hello from their brunch meeting with the devil, but all the damn lombardi's on the table prevent me from getting a good video shot.

now that Eli will be a dink and dunk passer, his rating will go up. he was always a deep ball gunslinger, hell he hit Cruz on saturday with one, but he dropped it once he hit the ground.

if that connects, Giant ball on like the 7 and the papers wouldve had to find a new talking point.
