I don't usually post things like this and will take the brunt of any complaints for "clogging up the board," however I was hoping to recruit some of the Syracusefan nation to vote for my father, Jim Hoover. He is one of 8 nationwide finalists for the USA Today HS coach of the year. Of course it is just a popularity contest, but still would be cool for him to have a good showing. He has been coaching at the same high school (Walton) for close to 40 years and is 2 wins away from 300. When he reaches that milestone he will be one of only 5 coaches in NYS to have 300+ wins.

If you are willing to vote or share the link via Facebook/Twitter here it is: http://contest.usatodayhss.com/vote/bestcoach2013/final

If not simply ignore this post.

I gave him a little boost, he is getting some good action right now. Over 1000. Not bad for someone from Walton, NY.

You can vote as many times as you want. Which is why a guy like my father who coaches in a town of 3-4K is still going in this :)

How often can we vote?

You are originally from Penn Yan, right? One of my father's ex-assistant coaches moved to Penn Yan and was a coach/teacher there. Bob Breuer.

ahhh Mr. Breuer. Yep, lol small world.

When does the voting end? I'll be able to hit the vote button a ton today, works a little slow.

It goes on for a week, I believe. I was too young to really remember him coaching with my father, but I have heard many stories about Coach Breuer's "colorful" pre-game pep talks.

In a truly diabolical move to clog up both boards I posted this on both the basketball and football board. I think you replied to the other thread.
OMG, I didn't even realize. I was too busy voting.

Really him winning this overall is probably out of the question, since a few of the other finalists had 600K votes in their regions, but even making the top 4 gets a small award for the athletic department of the school.

I voted 3 times so far. How many does he need to win? Seems like something this board can pull off.

A few of the finalists in other regions were in close to 750,000 votes. So I am guessing he would need at least that many. There are a lot of people on this board, myself included, who spend quite a bit of time on the internet so who knows. However, it's possible some of the members here played for or know some of the other finalists.

My father is so into the season and preparing for our playoff game this weekend that he hasn't pay any attention to this at all. Just getting to the final 8 has earned the school a banner of some sort signifying the "accomplishment."

Man, you must have some people rocking the votes, lol. Just jumped from 2998 to 3046 in between me voting twice lol

Judging by percentages, it looks like the other finalists have some serious rocking going on also:)

I'm crushing the vote button over here but 3,000 to 750,000 is an uphill climb

Haha, it certainly is! Thanks for the support guys and remember for the next week if you are surfing the web with nothing to do keep a tab open and keep voting :)

He is holding right around 8%. Even with the influx of votes the percentage has stayed steady, but the other ones have dropped significantly. #7 started at 40% and #4 was around 35% at first.

Threw a few votes your way. Will do it all week. Good luck!!

Lets see what we can do about that. What does his AD get if he finished 4th or higher?
