OT: Jake Locker announces retirement from NFL

This should lock up Locker as one of the biggest draft busts in NFL history, even though there seems to be an awful lot of them lately. I'm not really surprised these athletic quarterback's, who dominated in HS, and college, seem to be busting at an alarming rate. Other then Russell Wilson, who also has an accurate, rifle for an arm, I can't think of any dual-threat quarterbacks that are having a successful NFL career.

At least Locker gets to head into retirement at 27, having earned closed to $20m in his 4 year career.

Andrew Luck. Less mobile, but still

I think we saw him play his first game, right?

In the Dome?

He looked awfully good to me that night.

I think that was the night of the god awful all orange uniforms?
Recall it was the home opener. Hopes were high. Oy.

I believe it was on Washington's first play (Locker's first play in college) when DT Tony Jenkins burst right up the middle and planted Locker on his back.

I heard from a generally reliable source at a later tailgate that Jenkins had technically broken his assignment to do that, and was reamed by the staff over it.

Was Decker on that team with Locker?

I could be completely wrong here.

I find myself wondering if Locker is heading back to baseball. He's certainly still young enough to do it, and the fact that he hasn't said anything or ruled it out tells me that he is at least exploring the possibility. (Apparently the Angels, who hold his rights, have no interest.)

While he certainly may decide to play baseball, my money is on him retiring, and living a comfortable life with no more pressures. He's already earned $20m in his short career, so it's not like he needs the money. Plus he doesn't seem the type of guy who is going to be make it rain at the strip club with 100k worth of $1's, or having a different sportscar for every day of the week. I remember on draft day instead of heading to NY to attend the draft, he and his family threw a small party in his parents garage, with a cooler full of beer.

Given our record under GRob, why does it not surprise me that the coaching staff didn't like sacks...
