I think we have the potential to have a very strong o-line now tbh.
1st string:
LT-Pringle
LG-Miller or Mack
C-Collins
RG-Petry
RT-Big Spoon
Then you have
Bertrand
Either Miller or Mack whoever loses that battle
Washington
Cruz
Those would be the main 4 off the bench and I think that’s a strong 4 to come in. And a versatile group. I really like that’s starting group
The word you keep getting out of the staff is that Petry is a next level guy.I would expect / hope that Petry is the one getting bumped to the second unit. Don't think Pringle is a LT candidate.

Next level? He's turning 27 during the upcoming season lol.The word you keep getting out of the staff is that Petry is a next level guy.
Fran said he begged Petry to come back. Can't see him not starting.Hope so.
He's been a figural part of the last two OLs, and has stepped up both years. I'm not putting him down.
Still view him as the weakest link of the five. Upgrading would be beneficial, which doesn't diminish Petry's role / possible contributions in the two deep. If we have a "better" guy to plug in that a two year starter, then it indicates higher quality of the positional unit.
Can’t agree more. Petry will be starting somewhere on the line no doubt.Fran said he begged Petry to come back. Can't see him not starting.
Starting to get there. We are in such a different stratosphere in OL talent than we’ve been used to.
These are like the coach Mac years.
I don’t know. Those chips are addictive and filled with things that build bulk. His name doesn't fit his physique.![]()
If he was an NFL guy he would be there right now. I doubt he had a lot of options outside the program, tbh. Regardless of what Fran said about begging him to come back, he's a replacement level player. The word you keep getting out of the staff is that Petry is a next level guy.

Agree. He is the leader of the OL and has by far the most experience. He is very well thought of by the staff. The word you keep getting out of the staff is that Petry is a next level guy.
Serviceable is a better word than replacement-level, I agree completely here. He can play in a pinch but it's not like you can't find someone better. The word I would use for Petry is "serviceable." Not an insult.
Two years ago, the coaching staff started to talk about Petry during preseason camp. Prior to that, he'd been a lightly recruited JUCO who only weighed 270 pounds, and was only playing on special teams. When Wohlabaugh got injured early in the 2nd game, Petry had to step in and play at RT the rest of the way. And he did a credible job. As a right tackle, he was slightly below average, but got the job done and was serviceable. Saved our bacon that year on the OL.
Last year, he held onto his starting job, shifting in to RG. We didn't have the best OL, we didn't have a bad OL. They mostly got the job done [and were probably slightly below average, but not bad]. Again, he did a commendable job at RG. Serviceable.
I view Petry as an important part of the OL / two-deep. Clearly, he's going to play, and play a lot. Fran rotated tons of OL last season, and I'd expect that to continue.
But at the ACC level, I don't view Petry as anything more than serviceable. Again, not a knock / insult. But taking the OL to the next level means being able to supplant guys like this in the starting lineup. If we can find a "better" RG, that is a sign that the OL quality / depth is improving, because it would shift him to the second unit. And if we don't have anybody who can displace him from the starting lineup, then it is good that he is decently solid / serviceable.
I remember when Coach MacPherson said words to the effect of, "You know a program has arrived when it starts landing the 300 lb 4- and 5-star guys."The size of lineman we are getting/tatgeting under Fran brown is SEC like. It’s insanity!
Thank god for the Portal. We haven’t “arrived” yet but we are well on are way. When we sign several of this type of OL/DL out of High School, we have arrived. We are close, but need too continue to win this year with this schedule.I remember when Coach MacPherson said words to the effect of, "You know a program has arrived when it starts landing the 300 lb 4- and 5-star guys."
According to ‘recruits and offers’, we are bringing in 7.5 HS OLs and 4 portal OLs in 2025, that is 1/10 of a 105 man roster - seems like a lot.
You cannot have too many good OL & DL.According to ‘recruits and offers’, we are bringing in 7.5 HS OLs and 4 portal OLs in 2025, that is 1/10 of a 105 man roster - seems like a lot.
Also the numbers work out more easily with the portal now. Some of these new guys won’t work out. They will cycle out. The way it works now if you want to be a big time program. You cannot have too many good OL & DL.
I think we’re letting nostalgia overrate our line play in the late 80s and early 90s. They were good no doubt, but how many went on to NFL careers. I remember Flannery but who else?I remember when Coach MacPherson said words to the effect of, "You know a program has arrived when it starts landing the 300 lb 4- and 5-star guys."
Yes, but can’t you say that about any position? You cannot have too many good OL & DL.
According to my calculator, 5/11 players on the field when the offense has the ball are offensive linemen. Seems like we're doing fine in this area.According to ‘recruits and offers’, we are bringing in 7.5 HS OLs and 4 portal OLs in 2025, that is 1/10 of a 105 man roster - seems like a lot.

Bringing in a few upperclassman linemen to play immediately, and give the huge freshman class of huge OL a chance to mature and practice.According to ‘recruits and offers’, we are bringing in 7.5 HS OLs and 4 portal OLs in 2025, that is 1/10 of a 105 man roster - seems like a lot.
