OT: Kyle Orton retires

Guess that orton jersey I sent millhouse for Christmas is already a dish rag.

Here comes Sanchez, here comes Sanchez right down orchard park lane...
they could've traded down for bridgewater this year. 103 rating the last 5 games.

we have a 900 yard receiver with no qb and no first round pick. grrrreaaat.

i hope whaley is gone.

I think he's just trying to skip training camp again. I would bet he will be on an NFL roster at the beginning of next season.

I don't see Sanchez as a fit for Buffalo, he would be better off re-signing with Philly then going anywhere else. If Buffalo really wants Orton back I am sure they can make it happen but hopefully they will look to try and upgrade there if at all possible.

Going to be hard to find someone better than Orton... Seriously. That's all you need to know about the QB position in the NFL.

This isn't shocking Buffalo has Orton under contract for another year at 5.5 million and that isn't starting QB money. Orton has no leverage but to say he is retiring and if Buffalo management wants him for 2015 they will have to bump up his salary or he sits the year out and then goes somewhere else and backups and gets paid to backup.

RGIII or Kirk Cousins will get dealt from Washington.
Cutler will get dealt from Chicago.
Hoyer looks likely for Houston and BOB's system.

Buffalo with a decent QB next yr is a playoff team. The AFC East schedule is the AFC south, and NFC East. NE will get Pitt and Denver, Buffalo will get CIN and KC.

For Bill's fans wanting Cutler to replace Orton. The Bears did this in 09 and went from 9-7 to 7-9.

Kyle Orton for his career is 2 games over .500 as a starter with a 3.7% touchdown percentage and a 2.5% interception percentage and an 82% rating

Jay Cutler for his career in a lot more starts is 3 games over .500 with a 4.7% touchdown percentage and 3.4% interception percentage and an 85% rating.

They are effectively the same player.

Hopefully the Bills are smart enough to realize that they shouldn't overpay for the same player they are replacing. Also you can get good QB's after the first round. It's a myth good QB's only exist in round one. Otherwise, you wouldn't have Brady, Brees and Romo.

The Bills could help their QB a lot if they can find a weapon at RB, and then just simply find someone who will take care of the ball. If Jay Cutler couldn't be successful with Marshall and Jeffrey in Washington, what makes Bills fans think he will be successful in BuffalO?

Winston and Mariotta wouldn't be available where the Bills will be, so what difference would it make.

more than 2 QB's will go in the first round. The UCLA kid Hundley is a first rounder most likely and Buffalo will miss on him due to not having a 1st round pick. Maybe another QB as well after the pre-draft process plays out

how quickly you forget that teams can trade first rounders

Oh come on, Millhouse. Name one time when the Bills used their first round pick to trade up and get a guy they really wanted. Just one time.

You can't. Never happens.

They traded up to get Sammy. I would say they really wanted him.

With the pick being 19th overall that Buffalo is giving to Cleveland that kinda negates the value of that pick by still I didn't like that trade for Buffalo.
Sammy Watkins had at best the 4th best rookie WR year this season behind Mike Evans, Odell Beckham, Kelvin Benjamin who all went over 1000 yards as rookies.
At 19 the Bills would be looking at Brent Hundley and that is it. Connor Cook is returning to michigan state. After Cook the best QB prospects are Dak Prescott, Shane Carden, Kevin Hogan, Sean Mannion, Bryce Petty who are all 2nd round or later prospects.
The Watkins only costed them Hundley but this Orton thing was obvious on the horizon. If Marrone wants Orton for 2015 just bump up his salary and move on. Manuel doesn't appear to be the answer or Marrone would have started him against New England in that preseason game yesterday.

This. That #19 pick doesnt solve the QB situation. Buffalo will make some splashes in FA will all the money they have from not paying a QB to address OG and probably TE. That mid-late first round pick is whatever.

Got me...

As far as Orton coming back, I don't know if I would want. A quarterback who doesn't put time in during the offseason. If he truly has been on the fence of retirement, he obviously isn't putting the time in that good quarterbacks do. Also, the guy has has left every city he has played in on a bad note. It's a shame the Bills do not have a good qb, they have a very good defense and a lot of weapons.

Comparing Orton to a God QB might be a stretch.

Bills have enough needs on the offensive side of the ball where that first round draft pick could have helped them more than giving up two 1sts and a 4th for a wide receiver. So they may not have gotten a top QB at 19 this year; how about a guard or TE? Near the bottom of the NFL on offensive side and our first pick is at 50. 15 years and counting.
