Class of 2024 OT Marques Easley (IL) Portal to Purdue

There was a 50 minute interview where Fran appeared recently on On3 [or one of those types of broadcasts] where he talked about how he has no tolerance for rules violations. He lays out the requirements, and if anybody thinks that the rules don't apply to them, then they must think Fran's a sucker -- and he explicitly stated that he is NOT a sucker.

He outlined how he shows up at classes HIMSELF. Fran doesn't dispatch team managers or grad assistants to do that -- he does it himself, along with the other coaches. And he expects the players to be paying attention. If he sees them with hoodies on, snoozing, or not participating, he holds it against them. And the players know what the expectations, are because he lays it out for them up front. And if they come here, then they know the standard they're held to -- because he ISN'T a sucker.

Remember when Fran first took the job, and they had that blowout first weekend of the transfer portal, where they brought a ton of guys in for a big event? We hosted a 4-star DT transfer from the Florida Gators, who hailed from NJ. Everyone was really excited about this kid potentially coming here, but after the kid showed up acting cocky and was a jerk to some of the football managers, Fran bounced him on the spot, and told the kid and his parents to kick rocks.

I assume that Fran knows Easley from recruiting him to Georgia. If he's comfortable with this, then that means that he's bringing the kid in NOT because he was a highly rated guy -- but because he deserves a second chance. But make no mistake, the kid will be on a short leash.
I did not see that interview. Win or lose it is hard to not like Fran. Great recruiter, new up and coming HC and (the main thing) can definitely relate to the players of today. I have absolutely no problem with second chances. I have mentored kids throughout my career. Some have become positive members of society and some not so much. You don’t know if you don’t try. I like that Fran is as involved as he is. Thanks for the info.
