Want to have good luck with northern lights? Be a witness to ORANGE northern lights. ORANGE northern lights are extremely rare. Seeing them would be extremely lucky.

Seeing the northern lights live / in person is a bucket list item for me. My wife and I are camping out on Lake Ontario tonight to hopefully see them. Camping is NOT my idea - I am old and a freaking WUSS who gets sick if I read an article about it getting cold!! I just can't argue with the chance of seeing the lights, outweighs my WUSSness.

IT was a bucket list item for me as well. I missed them earlier this year as it was too cloudy (may have seen some green light through the clouds, but couldn't be sure). Thought I was going to be denied again as it was cloudy here again around 12-1 PM. however, my wife happened to look out around 4 AM and saw it was clear and she could see a bit of the aurora out the window. Drove a few miles away to a dark area where it was open with a good view of the horizon to the north and it was incredible! the aurora really peaked around 5:45 AM, very visible naked eye. I can cross this item off my bucket list now.

We went to Fairhaven and tented. First time for me in decades, didn't know we even owned a tent and camping gear. Didn't see the lights but had fun.

Gotta say it was GORGEOUS. I will go again. My wife even pointed out she only wants to go in the fall - I agre and this is from a WUSS that didn't want to go at all!!
