Then there are the Marching Badgers. Powerful sound, but what's with that weird strut? I dub it "The Funky Honkey".So is their band. Honoring the Van Halen reunion with Panama at halftime.
I keep saying that speed is everything in this sport. OK maybe not "everything" Dorian Graham is an example of wasted speed. No need for some one to catch you if you drop the ball or run into them with the ball. Hell I can bring down someone who does that. It might hurt but they will go down.So is Wisconsins for that matter
Seriously, Cali? If you can't catch the ball you can't use speed. There are so many things in football more important than speed. Ask Al Davis (RIP).I keep saying that speed is everything in this sport. OK maybe not "everything" Dorian Graham is an example of wasted speed. I wish Phil Knight went to Syracuse University. Do you think Stanford gets pissed, he went to grad school there.
Exhibit A: Brandon Spikes - 5.0 40 Yd Dash. However, he had excellent reaction time and great instincts, both of which are more important and make you look faster on the field. Cali's infatuation is 40 times, which prove nothing. Oregon's players have incredible reaction time with natural speed and it shows.Yeah, the SEC has really been having trouble with all those guys and their irrelevant speed.
In college, speed is insanely important because it's one of the attributes that can't be coached (natural speed that is) but differentiates players so emphatically in every facet of the game.

I realize this as well, I'm just saying 40 time is overblown. Look at Jeff Demps from Florida. Kid's got unreal straightline speed. He is olympic fast, and IIRC on the US National Track team. His side to side agility and instincts are a bit lacking, though, and he struggles against good defenses. Thanks for one example. Maybe that convinces the guys at the bikini bar on 41st and 9th, but that doesn't fly for me.
Speed matters. A lot. I can't imagine you don't really believe this. Yes reaction time, instincts etc help, but pure speed is a major differentiator in college. You can improve reaction with experience and repetition and film.
Natural speed is a killer. You played football, no? If so, you have to know that the fastest guy on the field is also one of the scariest. Being slower is a handicap.

And yes, being slow is a handicap. I'm not arguing it doesn't matter. I would love to be as fast as Oregon. Maybe someday.
I think the operative word in your post is "if" If you catch the ball and can take a step in the right direction ,speed becomes the big factor. My "infatuation with 40 times comes with a measure of presumption on my part that includes the football sense to be able to use the speed effectively which in too many cases isn't innate or taught by coaching on both sides of the ball.:bang:Seriously, Cali? Bnoro, Really there is a difference between "don't catching and can't catching the ball. It was more of a kind of statement that if you don't catch the ball your speed has become null and void for that play unless of course you have to chase down an interception. As or Dorian, he was an outstanding gunner for the KR coverage team.We are going to need a replacement there next year.
