OT: Oswego Sub Shop opening up in Liverpool

Haha, Oswego can be alot of fun and be a complete mess...just way to many drunk college kids! I have some good ones myself, most recent a night in the slammer with my future brother in law after I punched a bicycle cop in the back of his head outside of the sting last harbormess. Mind you, he pushed my fiancée and I was a wee bit hammered. Long story but lets just say I didn't get charged because the officer was in the wrong just as much as I was for punching him...haha, great times I tell ya!

I loathe Panera with the heat of a thousand suns.

Wow really? I think it's a great alternative to fast food when you need something quick and cheap.

it wasn't all one way. i worked at cooper . grilled cheese master.

PSI PHI GAMMA!.

No zonies when I went through...but agreed Pizza Pub also was awesome.

What is a zonie?
A zonie is a calzone, just different name, but the awesomeness that is the buffalo chicken zonie with a side dipper of blue cheese...was also the cure for late night drunken foolery.

They actually opened one on Marshall street just a few months ago.

I almost got in a fight at Harbormess once too, in a short story, accidentally touched girls ass, boyfriend, yelling at me, at Old City, to loud, can't hear anything, he punches me in the arm, I turn around yelling WHATTTT!! She and a couple friends push him away...He escaped severe pain that night.

Liked it the first couple of times, maybe cuz it was new and different, but the one adjective that always comes to mind with their food/bread is - dry.

Whe I used to go back for Harbormess we would open the place back up after hours (friends of family)pull the curtains shut and make cheeseburg subs and Vodka slurpees.

God damn you!!! We should've been friends.

Zonies is awesome.

And the Oswego Sub Shop is great because it's 3 houses away from Sigma Gamma which throws pretty much the only frat parties worth going to. Unless it's within walking distance of other college party places or bars, I'm not sure how successful it will be.

Old City Hall... Bucklands, Broadwells. Mmmm.

Sigma Gamma rocked back in late 70's/early 80's too. Probably the best frat back then from this unaffliated guy's opinion.

After reading this thread...I will stop at Oswego Sub this summer for lunch.

nunzis.shacky patch.lils. cops used to let you hang in the street with a bev between the wheel and old city.the tavern in hewitt and the railroad jumpride between serenos and barneys. last stop.wades.

and oh by the way... the drinking age was 18! those were the days. psi phi gamma.

I personally got sick of frat parties after my first semester freshman year - just hated feeling claustrophobic in basements while having to fight tooth and nail to get access to a keg of Milwaukee's Best. Would rather go to a house party or bar.

I could tell you some good fraternity stories but I don't think the statue of limitations have expired after 30 plus years.

basements? really ? i don't remember no basements. maybe...

As a current Oswego student I am excited. I remember during finals week I'd always order a meatball sub and get it delivered to me. That along with hitting up sub shop after a night of drinking is a great time as well.

Thank god for plus plan bro!!!

But if you are familiar with Oswego Sub Shop (particularly the Cheeseburger Sub which is literally God's gift to DRUNKARDS, and I'm not even religious), then this is great news for you.

I nominate the Cheeseburger Sub as the greatest drunk food of all time.

If you live outside of Central NY, this thread is of no use to you whatsoever.

This thread again reminds us of the uber strong faction of Oswego State Lakers that reside on the board. Excited about this development; that BK has sat vacant for a while now and it would be great to have something other than another national chain residing there.

I just hope the food tastes half as good as everyone here is saying. Or to be more accurate, I hope the Cheeseburger Sub is still good if eaten while sober. Can't wait to check it out, wish it was going to open sooner.

They are very good...order it with the works plus ketchup.

I usually order a whole sub, eat half and save the rest for the next day.

Not even close Mark...Sig Tau (The Tools) threw the best parties.

Also...they tried this before unsuccessfully. They opened 2 I think up in the north country, somewhere. Obvious why he's not saying that, but still a little shifty.
The current owners father actually attempted to franchise his business. I only knew of one shop somewhere near Plattsburgh that didn't do well for various reasons...especially the incompetence of the franchisee.

It is a shock you've never heard of it. I went to college up there years ago, work up there now but live in Liverpool. With you having family up there it's strange you never heard of them since they sponsor all sorts of sports teams up there too. I know Syracusans who frequent Harborfest have found the Sub shop too.

I only knew of one other location that they opened. It was a temporary location in a trailer, east of the city along the lake near the power plant. I don't know why it closed but most of the out of area construction workers working at the nuclear plant seemed to go there back then. Maybe the construction workers left the area or the plant became less tolerant of workers leaving the plant to eat offsite? I even wondered if it was seasonal even when it was open. The location was on a pretty isolated country road when the weather is poor.

Surprised they put it in the village on the main road. Lots of traffic and difficult to get in and out of there.
Key words "temporary location". It was set-up to take advantage of the construction of the Nine Mile 2 facility. Once the construction was complete and the huge number of workers left the area it was shutdown.

The Sub Shop's number one fan is NBC's Al Roker who is an Oswego State grad (along with Linda Cohn and Steve Levy of ESPN).

Note: I used to deliver subs for Oswego Sub Shop to the dorms during my Frosh and soph years.

Sig Tau had the biggest house, IIRC. I'm pretty sure I saw some bikini mud wrestling there, too, during my freshman year but the general douchiness of the brothers made me not want to go back. Also, getting beer there was harder than at most frats.
