Class of 2022 OT Rahtrel Perry (NY) Portal from Central Connecticut State

Do you think he would take a positional spot and be OC in waiting behind nixon? Gotta assume the pay is pretty close!
Jeff Ambrosie, the CCSU OL coach who went to Cortland and was a coach at Onondaga out of college, made $87k in 2023, if the kind of shady public records website I found is to be believed.

I cant speak for him, but I would guess he would be interested in a position on the staff. He thinks very highly of Fran.

We aren’t broke Rutgers, we can beat that

These are the type of kids that Indiana built their roster with. Highly productive / captains at the G5/FCS level. At a premium position as OT this would be huge. If you look back at last year all the big time OL transfers that were coveted by high P4 programs almost all turned out great. Look at the kid from Rhode Island we wanted. He went to Oregon and will be a first round pick. Spoon was decent before getting hurt but he wasn’t a highly sought after transfer. This kid would be a plug and play.

Losing out on Miles McVay sucks…just checked Rahtrel Perry Instagram and he’s visiting Florida and Ohio state now too..

Perry would be the highlight of the entire class, HS and portal.

I know a lot might not agree but I do not want a kid just chasing a bag of money. I feel money is better spent on players already on the team that fits the culture. If you give a left tackle1 million from outside the program what is the current left tackle going to want. If you do not match or exceed he will leave. Now the player coming in may be better on paper but may not be a better fit. May not fit the culture or expectations and the team lost a player that did. Portal is not always the answer. Could be the reason Fran is taking so many high school players for development.

How do you know he's JUST chasing a bag of money?

I don't love the insinuation that these kids just want the money when they don't choose SU. There's plenty of reasons, and I'm sure if kids are getting close to equal offers, they would then choose a school that fits them best.

Like our '25 class on the OL but I'm worried this means we are staring at another season of Enrique Cruz trying to play center. I don't think we can expect a guy who was so far from the 2 deep that he left 'Bama (Betrand) to be more than 2nd string this season.

That leaves Wohlabaugh/Spoon as tackles, Joe Cruz a lock at guard, and then Enrique at center and Hornsby as the other guard? The only way I can see that changing is if Trevion Mack edges somebody somewhere. I think I'm actually more worried about the line this year than I was last year.

It has nothing to do with “chasing a bag”. Fran specifically said last year that most of the roster would be built through high school recruiting . Last year was probably a one off as far as using the portal.

Personally, I thought last year was the perfect mix. I’ll be interested to see how many guys we add from the portal this year. I’m hoping it will be more than it looks.

Our offensive line was deep and experienced this season . Not that they were great, but they had a lot of bodies who were experienced at this level.

Your right. Ohio st. and Florida are not known for paying large nil for players.

When did Enrique play center?

Okay let's take money off the table, if you were a prospect looking to play in the NFL and loved the tradition and pageantry of college football, please rank the following choices for which school will accomplish your goal: Syracuse, Ohio St, Florida.

These arguments are funny anyway with people that will spend weekends and hours of their life shopping vehicles to save $300 and will switch jobs numerous times for $.

Historically, no comparison.

But opportunity to play to impress NFL scouts might factor into a decision, outside of what you bring up. A kid could might see a path to PT / a starting role at Syracuse that might not be there at a factory.

Correct. Kids have a multitude of reasons for choosing schools, which is my whole point.

It's disingenuous to assume that every kid is just thinking about how much money they can get. And that stems from jealousy and biases, and is a hurtful stereotype to a lot of these kids.
