I dont think Lin's emergence kills the Flynn deal. We still need a backup pg. The reason the knicks wanted Flynn is because Baron had another setback. Maybe it makes it less of a necessity but I still think the Knicks would send Balk and Bibby to Houston if Houston was willing to take it. Sidenote: What is Houston's deal, hes there 3rd pg who never plays yet they turned down both the Knicks and Lakers offers?Man I don't know what to think about all of this. Would love for the Knicks to have found a diamond in the rough but 3 games is such a small sample size. Thought Landry Fields was the 2nd coming after 20 games last season and he's fallen back to earth since. Eventually teams will catch up to players who don't have superstar talent. Don't see any reason yet why Lin will be an exception.
On another note, Lin's emergence kills any chance of the Knicks trading for Jonny Flynn on March 1st like was rumored last week in the below. Where does Flynn end up now? Lakers?

I'm guessing somewhere else where the team doesn't really want him and won't use him. He's no longer considered an NBA rotation guy. He's just going to sit on a bench until his contract is up.
That's not entirely true since his contract is up this year anyway as Houston declined the team option. There are still people who think getting Flynn into the right system will work. The success of players like Lin does wonders for Jonny long-term.
sure, I remember Bob Sura, the greatest player to ever come out of the Scranton area . . .Anyone remember Bobby Sura?
See, the thing is...good players generally just play well, wherever they are put. Guys dont choose where they get drafted. Ricky Rubio stepped onto an awful Minnesota team and they magically got better with him at point guard. Good players are good players.
Mike D'Antoni had a good line about "systems"... "The players are the system...there is no system. There is no substitute for good players. Thats the system"
EXACTLY...like Chauncey Billips in Boston under Pitino...then in Denver and Minnesota..then when he went to a new system in Detroit.
Oh wait.

I'm not trying to say that Flynn is a potential all-star or anything. His PER is one of the worst in the league. But I do believe it's way too early to give up on him. Can you honestly say that Jonny wouldn't both improve as a player and also help a team like the Lakers?
Your point about Rubio is invalid as Ricky has replaced Luke Ridnour not Flynn. Flynn clearly was not the same player after the hip injury as Rambis seemed to like him as a rookie.
Billups is the prime example of this but there are many others. One great one is ironically the person mainly responsible for Jonny's limited minutes. Kyle Lowry was a 1st round pick in 2006 and did absolutely nothing in Memphis or Houston while under Rick Adelman. Now he is having an All-Star season under McHale! Did Lowry just magically become a good player? No. More likely his kill set just meshs better with McHale than prior coaches. Tell me how you already know this won't be the case for Flynn.
