Oof I turned on EspnU to see what was on and it was 14-1 Gtown. Yikes

You make it sound like the womens team has been an elite program on it's way down. He's improved them from mediocrity to respectability and NIT bids, at least.

Your post would make more sense on the 'ball forum (minus the pretty good recruiter remark).

I agree. He doesn't have a clue how to coach. They turn the ball over around 25 times a day. He's improved the program but he's taken them as far as he can. I doubt TGD will cut his losses on this one.

Really? You make it sound like the football program is an elite program on its way down. He's improved them from mediocrity (actually the program was a downright disaster) to respectability and bowl bids, at least.

Um no. Open your eyes before you open your mouth.

The thread was about getting a new coach, and I said it should be referred to Fball. You all think Marrone is good cuz he improved a team from the likes of 1-10 to 5-7? Got news for ya, can't get much worse than 1-10 seasons. By default, any yo-yo off the street could have his record as coach, playing the schedule he plays.

Take away all Marrone's FCS wins, and he has a losing record at SU. Heck, Pasqualoni was fired for JUST being .500 is his closing seasons. But you'll say DM made a bowl last yr! Ya, playing 3 FCS opponents (as Akron was on par with those teams). Marrone does nothing for this program, but b/c he follows GRob, he looks like a good coach to you folks with blinders on. How do you go from 5-2 to end the season 5-7? Sounds like a coach improving his team and bringing Cuse back to respectability.

We're pretty much DOA in football, regardless who the coach is. We can fire Marrone...but we're going to compete with Duke to stay out of the basement in the ACC. All the talk about firing Marrone is just sound and fury - the program will NEVER be a sustained top 25 program again.

Women's hoops we can compete in...with the right coach. That's the difference.

.
Sounds like you're hoping for this result? I would have felt better about your take if you ended with, "of course I'd love to be dead wrong about this"

OK, genius, you're the AD. Whom do you hire? (and it has to be someone we can actually afford) And what is it about your hire that is so superior to what Marrone has accomplished so far?

You are on the clock.

Not hoping for the result...just very confident that sums up our football situation. Syracuse's football fortunes dropped off in the 60s-70s as Archibald turned into a liability that the university didn't address. Then they get the money to build the Carrier Dome and - shocking! - Syracuse's football fortunes turned around shortly after that.

Money drives football. Oklahoma State is turning into a power because of Pickens money. Oregon has become a power because of Nike dough. The one thing we all know is that Syracuse won't be getting any money from NYS like they did with the Carrier Dome - not with the fiscal situation the state is in. So what Syracuse needs is a very wealthy donor to donate the funds to upgrade facilities. If that happens, we'll be competitive. If it doesn't, we won't. People thinking that we're going to change coaches and suddenly turn it around are insane - that's like planning to fix a house with a crumbling foundation by changing the drapes. Good luck with that.

But money doesn't drive women's hoops - get a decent coach (which doesn't cost much to do...), and you can compete. Which is why changing the women's hoops coach makes sense...and changing the head football coach is - at best - a spectacular waste of time. And money.

Dumbest post of the year. Seriously

So you want to de-emphasize football and go full speed with women's basketball? Sounds really exciting. Where can I get season's tickets?
