Looking for 55” -65” Flat screen looking for bargain price wit at least decent quality. Yes for watching SU hoops and football ( I’m usually at every home game and a couple away but I retired from coaching so will be at even more away) Any insights.

Most important question is what is the budget? Best bang for the buck are the TCLs but make sure it is a 6 series, don't screw around with the 4 or 5 series they are significantly inferior to the 6. Every brand has budget tvs nowadays so dont just get fooled by the name brand and assume it will be good just because it says Samsung. Their low end ones are walmart crap. If money doesn't matter than like others said the LG OLEDs can't really be beat. I wanted something huge and also upper mid-tier in performance and went with a 75" Sony x900f and absolutely love it. Have a big room and a big wall and its perfect, is better than the 65 Samsung 8000 series I had there previously in every way.

I've been brainwashed into thinking Samsung is the only acceptable brand of TV to own, but I've never been able to tell the difference between "lesser" brands like Vizio, Insignia, etc. and Samsung/LG. They all look the same.
Honestly, I started buying Vizio’s probably over a decade ago because at the time it was the only decent thing I could afford... Now, it’s still all I want to buy because I’ve had such good luck with them.

Samsung 8000 series is not the same a QLED Q80R. The 8000 series is not QLED and its a big difference. Processors and internal tech make a difference, too. It all depends on what each person likes and the viewing environment. Motion processing, sound processing also count. Take your budget and then look at hem side by side. Pick which ever you like. The Samsung QLED also up-scales very well, which since there are few true 4k sources, is pretty important. It handles the motion of sports very well, too. They are not a budget TV, though, just like the OLEDs.

The QLED is better but it costs quite a bit more too. I have a few different Samsung Smart TV’s in the house and the 8000 Series works fine for sports like football. No motion issues. The QLED is better and costs more but the 8000 Series is very good too.

I'm quite aware. I bought the 8000 series before the Q8 existed. The 8000 series is basically a low mid-tier or upper budget. Not sure why anyone would go with the Q8 over the OLED at the same price point unless they watch CNN all day and are afraid of burn in.

Full disclosure, I own an LG OLED - it is worth every penny, IMO.

With respect to what you are looking for, you can't really beat TCL:

TCL 55 inch 4K Smart LED Roku TV

EDIT: Get the biggest set you can afford, you won't regret it. 55 inch is the smallest you should go. Unless you are sitting very close to the set, it is probably too small.

I have that exact TCL. Just got it a month ago. Outstanding picture. Very surprised. Don't regret the purchase.

Edit: Correction, I have the 65 inch.

For the money I’m partial to the Vizio quantum series (qled). Qled is great in bright rooms and good in dark rooms.

The Vizio quantum m is the budget qled series and the p series quantum x qled competes with the Samsung qled 90r/80r at a decent discount.

If you ever want to go down the rabbit hole of tv comparisons.
