OttoinGrotto's 2015 keys to success on offense (must read)

Which 3 are you referring to? I was just checking the SU athletics site to see what they have listed for the weights of the players. Now I'm sure when camp starts numbers will be adjusted after they weigh in, but as of now they list:
Roberts 266
Foy 276
Robinson 292
Trudo 307
Palmer 323

I have to assume that they will probably be the starting 5. Unless you were referring to getting to 280 as losing weight, in which case you may be correct.

EDIT: I went back and doublechecked and saw that out of 21 listed offensive lineman, 16 weigh more than 280. Two have already been mentioned. The other three are Moore, whose weight issues have been well documented and should probably remain at TE, Shanley, a career backup, and someone named Darnley, who I admit I've never hear of before.
Those weights are probably just fine, assuming that they'll be doing a lot of zone blocking.

Keep in mind that the SU athletics site has been terrible in regards to accuracy of players listed height/weight. That said Foy does look much lighter but that has to be by design since he was close to 320 at some point and doesn't look nearly as fluffy any longer.

Curious if, as bcubs9497 stated, zone blocking will be our technique. We've been stressing getting faster everywhere else so makes sense we would follow suit in the trenches being we play a handful of teams who you cannot simply road grade over. We've got some VERY strong players now but so do LSU, FSU, Clemson, etc.

Lester and Shafer have both confirmed a zone blocking scheme for this season.

Yes -- I was referring to the starters at L-OT, L-OG and R-OG. Robinson has played below 292 -- it is a good thing he has gained back.
You next have to compare these guys versus the starting OLs of Pitt and others in the ACC. Our guys will compose one of the smaller lines in the league. Need a lot of cohesion to compensate.

For the record, when Robinson was 280 at guard, he was a beast and very nasty. It was probably the best he had played to this point. I can't wait to see him healthy and at 292 with that mean streak. Especially alongside Trudo (also nasty) and Roberts who I have heard has a mean streak as well.

This is key I think adjusted blocking schemes will play a big role in protecting and enhancing the OL this year.

True. That's why I stated that we should really wait and see what the players are listed at when they weigh in for fall practice.

I prefer the eye test vs what the scale says. Just because a player could be at weight X doesn't mean they should be.

Ah, yes. The "no fat chicks" approach.

I mean unless that's your thing... then there's nothing wrong with it.

It's a bit like 40 times. They're fine but you can look at a player and tell if they are fast enough or not pretty easily.
