P-S: Why are so many Syracuse athletes enrolled in one obscure grad program?

I'm intrigued by the who cares it's a graduate program side of this. So its shameful if the undergrad program is faux but a grad school programs can be faux as one wants? I too happen to think this program is legit but I don't understand the line that some are drawing that say anyone taking grad courses the program doesn't matter.

So something that interested Carlson, is well balanced, explains a situation, addresses both sides of the story, and gives a slight peek into what goes on off the field is nothing burger? This doesn't feed your curiosity even a little?

It’s pointless and busybody-ish.

Guys. Newsflash. There are lots of useless grad programs. They exist to make money.

A masters degree in PR is a complete waste of money. So is one in history unless you intend to get a PhD most likely. And countless others.

At least in education fields schools often require advanced degrees. So at least they’re helping with job placement and ensuring they can be gym teachers, coaches etc. to be honest seems more useful than half the crap graduate degrees I see schools touting.

A person who started out playing sports as a pee wee and has gone all the way through college and completed a 4 year degree and is still wanting to play as a graduate has probably already committed to sports as a profession, either as an athlete or coaching or other associated fields.

No CousCuse. They are human beings, that have other interests besides sports, and have the degrees to prove it. Supplementing their degree, with one that works in sports, is just a way to open more potential doors, should the opportunity arise - beyond their bachelor's.. They're not just athletes. They're people trying to maximize opportunities.

Couscuse, if you were a h&ll of a botanist, that happened to play D1 ball? You might take the same (paid for)grad course, to maximize opportunity, or just because you had to. You're still a h&ll of a botanist, even if some choose to minimize you to an athlete only... ;-) Look past the stereotype.

There are graduate botanical study programs at other universities. The people that choose Syracuse are most likely interested in some kind a career in sports. It's a very large field with many different types of opportunities. Is there something inherently wrong with that, as Carlson seems to imply?

Paragraph six reveals the tell and Carlson's bias. From my read, he's trying to uncover something sinister along the lines of UNCs scandal. Maybe he's trying to land a job at the Raleigh paper.

Seems like the post standard is filled with writing hacks who couldn’t get into SU and are driven to bring it down.

Or they did get in, but have a ton of loans and are pissed that athletes get to go for free, so they want to bring them down.

Pointless hack job. I’m embarrassed for having read it.

Please read the full article before commenting. It offers a lot of insights into what draws players to this program, and several alums have great things to say about it.
Here’s the problem...I don’t have to read any more than the headline to perceive that something sinister is being implied. I know that sometime the actual writer of the article isn’t the writer of the headline. But if your name is attached to it and I’m the coach of the football team...you’re not gonna get the time of day from me ever again.

I found the article very interesting. I also appreciated than they spoke to two kids, Trudo and Loeb, who are very serious students. Seems like a program not unlike some others where you get out of it what you want. You can skate somewhat if that’s what you want, but if you’re serious about the program, it can be very valuable to you.

I agree that the article was fair.

I thought the headline was trying to paint a different picture. I just expected to read something else.
