i was upset to see this. i hope this does not negatively affect recruiting. what do others think? i am hoping the new chancellor can undo the damage that cantor did in terms of admissions, research etc. i am also distressed at that the low standing of the law school.

Sadly, the law school has never been that highly rated. Not sure what is needed to get it over the hump. IMO, this 'designation' will have little to no effect on...well, anything (other than SU's coverage on the late night TV shows).

I love the school's faux angst towards it. I think the school was this "highly" ranked in partying in the early 90s too. It always helps I think.

this won't hurt one bit at all….actually prob gives us more respect in the ACC

true, it could help applications to go up.

theres a lot of wealthy kids at prep schools with good grades who need to party for 4 years...before they get handed a 100k a year and a VP title at Dad's firm.

could help football attendence too. enough with the brainiac nutjobs in the lab...lets get back to the 80s when the school was highly ranked, and we were all in maxwell, newhouse or the school of management and were wasted 24hrs a day waiting for the next Dome sporting event or concert.

The new law schools a waste of money in my opinion.

If anything, this would help recruiting and not hurt it. These rankings are a joke and everyone knows it. I'm sure the administration isn't fond of it, but many prospective students may like it.

Cantor's work is now complete. Our university ranking has fallen from top-50 to the mid-60's, but hey we've moved up in this category.

The problem is, it's not whether SU is the biggest party school or not, it's that this ranking was done based on a survey of students which means that the student body now looks at SU as a party school more than any other.

It's a double edged sword. Remember parents have to co-sign those loans. I doubt parents nor alumni seeking jobs are too enthralled with this ranking. It's such a subjective , crazy rating though , it seems like it should be meaningless. It does affect perceptions though by people who don't have much knowledge about SU. I bet colleges wouldn't strive to be at the bottom of those rankings either. It's all about balance.

fair point, but i dont think it impacts the alumni in any way, shape or foam...i mean form. i cant see a resume being passed by because of this 'award'.

certainly a parent may raise an eyebrow, but at the end of the day, this is all just fluff, the tuition weeds out the less serious.

For additional reference, UVA was ranked #1 Party School by Playboy in 2012. The UVA grads I know here in NOVA have similar opinions as SU alums, like "really?"

My family is a testament to the success that comes out of the Law school at Cuse. Federal District Court Senior Judge(Great Uncle), D.A.(2nd Cousin, Judges son), and a Defense attorney with her own firm(Mother). For some reason the Law school is not highly ranked, but does have some distinguished alums. Back in the day my great uncle also taught some courses at the Law school. (80's I think)

Also, I know a lot of people don't like him, but the current Vice President of the USA is an SU law graduate.

My brother is, too, but I figure the VP of the USA is more noteworthy right now.

True.

Well there you go. Took quite a few post to get to the bottom of the lack of respect for the Law School, Biden. He probably helped with the party school rankings though. I know he makes me drink more!!!!!

joking, correct?
This reply was so simple, yet so effective.

I have no idea where this nervousness comes from. We have always been known as a party school, and a strong academic school. You can say that if/when you win, that place will go bonkers!

Conversely, if we were known as the worst party school in the nation, do you think recruits would say "that's where I wanna be!"

10 second pitch: It's cold up there, but you get a great education, have a great network for a career after graduation, and you have the best time in the nation while going to school. Hmm, I think that's a pretty good sell ...
