Marrone was always going to take an NFL head coaching job. He was never going to stay in college having to coach new kids every year.In fairness, it was his dream job. Until he realized how crappy of an actual job it was getting the program funded like a real D1 school. Then it wasn’t a dream job anymore and he left.
It’s not complicated.
forgot the State tax in NY versus Florida, makes a difference as wellI know there are certain money levels where we cannot compete. But I am just not sure why everyone finds it inevitable that a sane person MUST choose $11M over $7.5M.
First, at Florida, maybe you have a better chance at winning a title. But you also have to win how many of them to dethrone Spurrier and Meyer in the eyes of Florida fans? If you go 10-2, but lose to FSU and Georgia... the fans are not only not happy, but upset. Is it worth it? At Syracuse, he could go 10-2 and we would not care that he lost to Colgate. Record trumps rivalries. If he wins 10 games a year, he will get a statue here. At Florida?
Syracuse might be $7.5M per year... but lower expectations means longer tail on the contract. If he gets 10 years here, that is $75M. Florida could be $11M for 5 years, but you get fired after 3 years because of "fan/booster" expectations. You end up with the $55M (as guaranteed) and having to take another job just to match what you would have gotten from Syracuse for those next 5 years. So you go from Florida to a low P4 rebuild or even a school in the American. Probably make similar money by the time it gets done.
Most importantly, if you are selling relationships/trust/character building in the specific way that Fran is, I am not sure that translates well if you are a mercenary coach always looking for 19 to 23% more money. Building husbands/fathers means more than chasing dollars and shortcuts to success. He cannot do it himself and expect people to buy into it. That will not work as well the second time if he leaves after 2 years. Other recruiters will use it to their advantage... "Fran is all talk. He will bolt if the next opportunity comes along."
I think that it might be tempting for anyone to leave for a Penn State, Alabama, or Georgia level job. Just not sure it makes sense for him to bounce before 2026 just to get more money to be at "an SEC school." And he might be better off NOT being the guy to follow Kirby Smart. In a few years (at most), Alabama might be open. If he is in the running there and then, then very good things must be happening here.
I said before He knows about Penn St, and Paterno, and Franklin. Fran's values put him above that cesspool.Penn State is the job I’d worry about the most. He could get every top Jersey kid, play in 100K stadium and compete for titles.
Not much of a dream job if you hate one of the top 3 responsibilities of it...Marrone was always going to take an NFL head coaching job. He was never going to stay in college having to coach new kids every year.
Hah the same media and Clemson fans that said their team was going to win a Natty this year and now they say Nixon is going to come to Clemson to be their OC. Just because they're used to lighting their money on fire and winning doesn't mean they can now.USA Today throwing the clickbait title out already...

Syracuse's Fran Brown will be hottest SEC coaching target in next hiring cycle
After an impressive start to his Syracuse football rebuild, Fran Brown will be biggest name in 2026 college football hiring cycle.www.usatoday.com
Also, not surprised, but the number of Florida fans on socials saying he WILL be there next coach is a little unsettling but Napier will be owed like $25 mill if he's canned after this year, so not sure the Gators are ready to absorb that...

National media spotlight on Fran Brown's success an unwelcome distraction
When you have USA Today national college football writer Matt Hayes coming out with his proclamation that Brown will be coaching in the SEC in 2026, as he didwww.si.com
Email this to him now lolI know there are certain money levels where we cannot compete. But I am just not sure why everyone finds it inevitable that a sane person MUST choose $11M over $7.5M.

Are you saying better Candidates than Nixon? If Nixon is gone next year it will be a good thing.
It would be developing Coach Frans coaching tree.
This allows him to bring in better candidates.
That’s the name of the game for assistant positions.
Something that fans at Syracuse haven’t been used to in a long long time
He’s not going to FloridaUSA Today throwing the clickbait title out already...

Hey Jimmy, is that you? It’s time for Wildhack to take this issue off the table. Pay the man. Maybe not $11MM but $9MM ish sounds good. I don’t want to go through the next year hearing about this every day.
Syracuse is a ridiculously rich school. The enrollment gains that come with top tier sports teams is proven. A couple of million is a rounding error for Syracuse.
I think you can figure it out. I would kill for him to be here for the next 10 years though. What are you implying?
I get where you are going.*Publicly mentioned.
All I'm saying is enjoy the ride while we can. The restoration of SU Football is finally here.
Add 2M to assistant pool, 10m is good for NIL, but we aren’t even close, and fan support.6m
Solid assistant money
15 to 16 out of the 20.3
Additional 10m in NIL
Area businesses are the keyFran said last summer that he needs around $6-8 million more than what the University now provides, which is around $14-15 million. He needs at least $20 million to be very competitive. They should be able to reach those numbers. Area businesses are the key. Micron and the spinoff companies are going to bring in a lot of opportunities. They should also bring in more people, which may mean tickets might be hard to come by.
can someone explain what bnoro is saying here?I think you can figure it out. I would kill for him to be here for the next 10 years though.
