PAY THAT MAN HIS MONEY!!!!

Yep and two things can be true at the same time:

1. Doug is kind of a dick in general
2. He isn’t a dick for taking an NFL head coaching job considering the two complete jackasses he worked for, and the complete lack of support he received after being promised a lot more. Dream job turned out to be far short of that

In fairness, many of the coaches are D’s. How many times have kids said, how they were recruited and what they got when they arrived on campus were very different things. Not just in football. I think at least w/Doug, there wasn’t a lot of smoke and mirrors. You got what you got, he was a straight shooter. Probably not a personality I would have loved being around but I respect he stuck to who he was and wanted things done a certain way, otherwise known as his way.

If we start selling out the stadium consistently for the next few years, you bet Cuse will find a way to increase capacity etc
After just replacing the roof that would mean going back to the silver benches. And I’m sure some here would welcome that.

When Fran says all he has is his word, I believe. His sincerity is part of his success and I truly believe him. But I don't know if I could turn down $8m with $40m guaranteed.
Have we ever lost a head coach to another college program? Marrone--NFL, Dick Mac--NFL. Folks either get fired here or they go pro. If you want to stay at the top of the football tier system, you better pay up for it. If that changes, then the clear message is that we are a second tier school. No ACC/B12 school can take that risk. Better to be Oklahoma State and buyout your loser coach than let him walk to a bigger program right now.

Everyone bellyaches about the ACC/B12 accepting fewer autobids that the SEC/B10... but if the ACC/B12 schools are not going to pay their coaches... then that is a tacit admission of second class citizenship. (BTW, the ACC/B12 allowed the B1G/SEC to decide the playoff system--that was a bigger concession of being second tier than anything the B1G/SEC decide moving forward).

If SU pays big money and it becomes a $30M mistake (adding $30M over next 5 years), it is just money. Raise tuition by an extra $250 per semester for the next 4 years to get it back. $500 times 15,000 students times 4 years = $30M. Heck, raise it $1,000 and pay for the next coach too.

The last time SU lost a head football coach to another college was in 1947 when Biggie Munn left for Michigan State after 1 season when he went 4-5
Had pretty good success at MSU, and took Duffy Daugherty with him... who they have buildings named after him on the MSU campus.

I really think Syracuse knows it struck gold with the Fran hire and maybe at the perfect time. they need to be a player in the next round of conference realignment. if the football team is down and not getting any tv views they will be left behind and I don't think they want that. my guess is they will figure out how to get the money they need to keep Fran and give him what he wants. being the 3rd rated game last week when a few years back that wouldn't have been in the top 15. butts in the seats and eyes on the tv will equal more money for the university.

yeah he was a good coach at MSU, he just so happened to be the coach for a season in one of the worst 5 stretches in SU football history, during the period between WW2 and the hiring of Schwarzwalder

I know there are certain money levels where we cannot compete. But I am just not sure why everyone finds it inevitable that a sane person MUST choose $11M over $7.5M.

First, at Florida, maybe you have a better chance at winning a title. But you also have to win how many of them to dethrone Spurrier and Meyer in the eyes of Florida fans? If you go 10-2, but lose to FSU and Georgia... the fans are not only not happy, but upset. Is it worth it? At Syracuse, he could go 10-2 and we would not care that he lost to Colgate. Record trumps rivalries. If he wins 10 games a year, he will get a statue here. At Florida?

Syracuse might be $7.5M per year... but lower expectations means longer tail on the contract. If he gets 10 years here, that is $75M. Florida could be $11M for 5 years, but you get fired after 3 years because of "fan/booster" expectations. You end up with the $55M (as guaranteed) and having to take another job just to match what you would have gotten from Syracuse for those next 5 years. So you go from Florida to a low P4 rebuild or even a school in the American. Probably make similar money by the time it gets done.

Most importantly, if you are selling relationships/trust/character building in the specific way that Fran is, I am not sure that translates well if you are a mercenary coach always looking for 19 to 23% more money. Building husbands/fathers means more than chasing dollars and shortcuts to success. He cannot do it himself and expect people to buy into it. That will not work as well the second time if he leaves after 2 years. Other recruiters will use it to their advantage... "Fran is all talk. He will bolt if the next opportunity comes along."

I think that it might be tempting for anyone to leave for a Penn State, Alabama, or Georgia level job. Just not sure it makes sense for him to bounce before 2026 just to get more money to be at "an SEC school." And he might be better off NOT being the guy to follow Kirby Smart. In a few years (at most), Alabama might be open. If he is in the running there and then, then very good things must be happening here.
He's closer to a national championship after 2-3 years of hard work right now here at SU than he would be taking a damaged SEC program and then starting from scratch and having all that work thrown out the window. He's in the middle of that successful process, it's working because of Syracuse (not in spite of Syracuse) and all his work, relationships, Institutional and community support. I think he knows that it's not just him doing it, it's him AND all that Syracuse has provided has blessed him too.
I hope I'm not naive but his relationship with administrators, community, players, alumni, are all thrown out the window for a few million more?
I get we all have a price, but more importantly what is the price that Fran Brown, the man puts on it, and I truly believe his cost loss analysis isn't all monetary.

After watching this I truly believe Fran Brown is not leaving Syracuse anytime soon, until he accomplishes all that he wants to AT SYRACUSE...and I truly believe it's not winning a national championship at an SEC school who seemingly has an easier path.

One would hope that someone is thinking this. Plus, the more you pay him, the more it takes to lose him because of money.

I think he’ll probably get a bit more than that from Syracuse.

I enjoyed this but to be fair Fran wants to build from within also and lean on portal less than he has been.
And ppl need to stop throwing dirt on Dabo.
Yeah, people have been pretty harsh on Dabo and Clemson. That said, Dabo isn't helping himself. He is coming off very unlikeable in his interviews/pressers.

a long-term contract with stability for his family that increases annually to a large figure is doable given the importance for football, especially right now. There's nobody else we can get who will produce for us at anything close to a 7-8m average number. But again, i think it's less about what we pay him and more about what we can commit to on the NIL side.

The good part is that Fran is the best fundraiser we have. He alone has opened doors that were previously closed. We just need more doors to knock on.

With the clamp-down on NIL needing to be for a valid business purpose, isn't the onus now on actual businesses, and not for the fans to pour more money into collectives or whatever?

we lost to Akron in 08 BAD That was the worst WTHeck
I had season tickets for close to 30 years and that was the game we left early and told my buddy this is rock bottom. I then said we'll be back I just didn't know when. Tim Green was that first recruit to set the stage for our success moving forward, we would always talk about which HS recruit would have that same program changing impact, didn't realize it would be a 1 year transfer like Kyle McCord or maybe not even a player but rather Fran Brown as head coach.

Did you just type Onus? 🙃
