It is very unusual for this to happen at this time of the year. Penny might already be looking for an excuse for when the season doesn't end well. The team might not be gelling in practice and somebody's gotta take the blame.

It has to be- get the stink out of the program or else. That said if Penny goes too then that program could end up in the tank so maybe they can somewhat save face keeping him in charge but with cleaning up a lot too.

Penny will say he got rid of the former coaches as soon as he found out to make him look like he had nothing to do with the violations.

The real question will be if Memphis had the money to pay off the let go coaches to keep quiet and take responsibility without linking Penny.

I wonder if he already has some coaches in mind and pulled the trigger once he had them committed? I guess we’ll find out. I just don’t see other coaches ditching their programs this late to join an ISHshow like Memphis. This story might be a Netflix doc in a year. LOL

With NIL, you really have to be deep down dirty to run into NCAA violations when all you have to do now is openly show the money.

I think its a combination of upcoming NCAA investigation, Penny beefing with everyone, and Penny being on the hot seat with a new AD. Penny always has roster and coaching turnover every year but having it happen in Sept is something crazy.

I'd doubt it. How many halfway decent coaches are sitting around out there with no place to go?
