Penny Hardaway press conference blowup

Waste of talent since hes been there
It showed even during the James Wiseman year

He has the 2 very best prospects from the 22 class that enrolled a year early in Bates and Duren. Yeah they could/should be in high school but you still should be able to win in American conference with them and the rest of the talent on that roster.

Maybe the NBA coach coming to coach in college experiment doesnt work? Penny struggling, Howard at Michigan is wasting talent after a good year last year, Stackhouse failed at Vandy.

Does this mean Carmelo cant be our next coach, lol
Carmelo sure could recruit talent and coach up big guys; though he would need a top D guy to organize that aspec.

I think the armchair experts on here are overstating the idea that Penny or Howard can’t coach. Nonsense. Howard lost a lot of key guys from last season, including Wagner and Livers. Penny is dealing with developing young players who struggle with inconsistency, which is always tough, and injuries and Covid. Our own star freshman is struggling big time this season. High school kids come in more raw than ever these days—plus many have ridiculous egos to boot, which don’t match their accomplishments.

The teams motto or whatever is "all the smoke" hahahahahaha

Wow. Man looks like he hasn't slept in weeks.
Cracking under the pressure/frustration.

Assuming he was responsible with the absurd amount of money he made,I can’t help but wonder why he’d even want that job? B-ball is my favorite thing in the world, and even if I could - I wouldn’t want to be a D-1 college coach for anything.

Maybe he spent it all

Penny can recruit he needs a Phil Marteli on his bench to help game management.
Larry Brown is too old to be doing that chit.
Hire a fired HC who won’t get a P6 job right away and have him do the game management and let Penny recruit.

Memphis is the biggest underachiever with all that talent in the nation.

Penny snaked the job from Tubby Smith and they got Wiseman. Then Wiseman got ineligible and the program has been what it is.

Can you imagine him with Beilein as his bench coach. Penny goes and get$ the players and Beilein does the rest.

I disagree regarding Howard, he still has Hunter Dickinson, a senior PG in Brooks and brought in 4 top 50 guys, 2 were McD AAs. If you cant win with that, thats a coaching problem. As much as i criticize JB, he could do damage with those pieces.

That is a scary combo. Cause he can coach.

Yeah, I think Beilein walked away because he couldn't stand the dirty business of recruiting. Penny IS the dirty business of recruiting. I think Beilein has too much integrity to do that though. I don't think he wants to teach basketball to a bunch of one and done AAU superstars. He wants 3-4 year guys that he can mold in to a great TEAM. I don't know either Penny or John Beilein, but that is the impression of both that I have formed over years of following each of them.

Agree with your assessment. I think Beilein would want to do it his way at this point in his career or just not do it. College basketball needs more people like John.

I mean he hasn't been there long but it's starting to look like he's a great recruiter dynamic personality and a lousy coach.

Very low class he should serve a suspension enforced by the chancellor.

I have a question. Where is that one poster who used to always chime in on these types of things with incredible answers totally out of left field ? I would love his take on this. What was that guys name on here?
