We all want Battle back but he is a closer he isn’t as consistent as say Wes Johnson was.

Our offense was terrible last year because the ball was always in Battle or Howard’s hands. They had insanely high usage rates which knocked his PER.

I like Marek but I disagree. Marek is not better at any area of the game. Bazley is exactly what next years team needed. His ballhandling alone would have been HUGE.

Time will tell. I saw Bazely in one game (against Romeo) and he looked good, but didn't strike me as someone who was coming in and dominating in year one.

Here's what I'd like to convey about Battle. He seems like a considerate young man with supportive parents who has been very thoughtful about his future and what it means for him. I hope he makes the right decision for himself but support him either way.

• She believes he’ll either be all in the draft or all out of the draft and won’t just test waters!
• He and his family value the potential to graduate in three years!!

• He will decide next week!!!

If he is a serious student as reported, he can't take weeks off to audition for NBA scouts. The "all in or all out" makes a great deal of sense in this regard.

I think frank being able to drop back into a facilitating role, paired with Marek gaining confidence and size could make up passing/facilitation wise for what ideally DB could have provided.

This hinges on Hughes and Carey being serviceable though.

The ball moving causes the D to move.
Our problem is we are predictable and don’t force the D to do anything different. I am not saying have Chukwu shoot jump shots or have Marek fire up 3’s but ball movement is important. Our guards have been terrible since MCW and Scoop at passing to the post. Just completing those passes have been hard.

Also if you are going to have a player set a pick don’t use the 5 who can’t shoot and doesn’t catch well. Use a player who can shoot. A player like Brissett could set the pick and his defender couldn’t hedge and double the ball handler.

I just said that. I watched the Rockets last night use Trevor Ariza as the P’nR player. That got him a ton of open 3’s whenever his defender hedged out. I was saying that could be Brissett.
Lydon should have been the guy setting the pick the year before but it was Coleman. Use shooters in that spot not nonoffrnsive threats.

Not saying he's a better long-term prospect, but you could definitely make the argument that a bulked-up Dolezaj is better for us next year than Bazely.

Not really. Baz is a special talent that would have made everyone better.

I think that Battle can improve in two major ways that will impress NBA scouts next year.
1) Work on his shooting stroke and raise his 3-point %
2) Rebound more, shooting guards in the NBA are expected to get boards. With less pressure to score, he should be able to get up to >5 boards per game vs. <3 least year.

I think he can still score 17+ per game but be more efficient and do more on the boards.

I agree with your assessment of how he can raise his draft stock. I also think he can impress scouts by showing he is a player that can take over games during crunch time. I felt like there were several games (1st WF game comes to mind) where Battle was completely gassed in the final 5 minutes because he never leaves the court.

Duke was playing zone.
That was perfect for us especially with a confident Marek.
We knew exactly how to attack it as JB is the better zone coach and we had a week to get ready for it.
We shredded that zone and didn’t even shoot 3’s.

Teams that played us m2m were holding us to the 50s.

Our offense to get better needs post offense, more efficient pick and roll offense and/or more transition easy buckets.

I am with you with some of that. I think the main idea of having the 5 set the screen is to get the defender out of the lane. If you screen with the 2 or 3 they can switch pretty easily and keep the defender against moyer or chukwu in the lane. Do I think they could have tried other things, yes, but in general I would bet the coaches thought through most of this and came to a decision that it wasn't going to work more effectively than what we were doing. Cuse's style, good or bad this year, got to the sweet 16.

Right, and with 3 offensive players. Chuckwu couldn't score down low, and Marek hardly ever shot the ball. Tough to score points playing 3 on 5 most nights.

Pretty sure the offense will change with better talent. I rewatched the 2016 elite 8 game against Virginia this weekend and we ran sets in the second half we didn’t see all last season with Lydon and Cooney screening/rolling/popping off the ball.
