Our offense to get better needs post offense, more efficient pick and roll offense and/or more transition easy buckets.

We need to shoot the ball better. With Buddy, Carey and Hughes, that's probably going to happen.

Pretty sure the offense will change with better talent. I rewatched the 2016 elite 8 game against Virginia this weekend and we ran sets in the second half we didn’t see all last season with Lydon and Cooney screening/rolling/popping off the ball.
That was a half time adjustment based on UVA's ability to guard ball screens. The went to a down screen style, I remember JB talking about that switch to try and free up those guys.

I agree with you, they obviously can coach offenses and know how to get the guys the ball.

Huh? I guess you didn't read the post I responded to? Just giving my opinion on that. Would you bet your life on Marek being here? And thanks for the update on Bazely not being here. LOL.

I didn't read the whole thread just your response that Marek was not better than Bazely at any part of the game. As far as an update, it wasn't an update, it was just a point of fact.

And yes, I would stake my life on Marek coming back. The talk of him staying in Europe came directly from the constant paranoia on this board. There is zero mention from him, his family or the team of the possibility of him going back to Europe to play there. Looks like you bought into the paranoia.

Here is my recollection: Dude had some issues about which the staff was well aware when recruited. (There was an telling quote by Troy Weaver, that Billy would either be Andre Miller or out of school.) Difficult stuff to deal with because part of the success of the medication can be thinking you don't need the medication. The staff tried to be humane about it, but NCAA beat the kid down at every turn.
Part of his "disappearing" was due to his illness.

No, I think you are mistaking him with Konecny. The quote was "He'll either be Tom Gugliotta or out of school." And I think it was Hop who said it off the record to someone on the board. Many people did compare Billy's game to Andre Miller, but the quote you gave, I believe, is blending together 2 stories.

Haha. No I'm not paranoid about Marek . But I'm not butthurt like some, spinning the nonsense that certain things can happen to make us better without Bazely. It won't. I wish a long life for you.

I like Marek but I disagree. Marek is not better at any area of the game. Bazley is exactly what next years team needed. His ballhandling alone would have been HUGE.

I would say it’s possible that Marek is a better passer than Bazley. Bazley looks to be an unselfish player who can pass too, but not sure he’s as good at that as Marek.

Overall I would’ve expected a freshman Bazley to be better than Marek, and I don’t think anyone saying otherwise would’ve said otherwise a few weeks ago.

Even so, I’d be more than fine with bringing back both of our starting forwards from the end of this season - provided we had a forward off the bench that can play. The lack of depth caused by Bazley not coming is what might hurt the most. Brissett-Marek are fine as the starters:

He’s Gerry McNamara.

The comparison to senior McNamara works from volume shooting to low percentages to high minutes to clutch shots to offensively challenged teammates. Not a coincidence that those are our only teams to go under .500 in league play.

And both teams also made incredibly gutsy and unexpected late season runs.

Yep. I thought that post was going to be controversial, but nobody took the bait. Overall Gerry was actually a slightly more productive player per minute.

Battle coming back would help there by likely shifting Hughes to a full-time forward. (With Howard-Battle-Carey getting the guard minutes). Hughes is probably a little undersized to play forward in the zone, but he should be fine. SU has had undersized guys playing the 3 on a lot of good teams - Josh Pace, Malachi Richardson, even Andy Rautins - and Hughes will have the benefit of a year in the system.

Not if his "personality" ripped apart the team chemistry which was so vital to the final outcome of this season.

Not a given, but certainly some pretty strong inklings this may well have been true. I'd take TB, MD, Golden & chemistry any day of the week.

Did you forget the part where JB credited Hop for ditching the ball screen? That elite 8 win was on Hop and JB’s willingness to listen.

No didn't realize that. Good info, glad JB puts the right guys around him and listens to their ideas.

Duke was playing zone.
That was perfect for us especially with a confident Marek.
We knew exactly how to attack it as JB is the better zone coach and we had a week to get ready for it.
We shredded that zone and didn’t even shoot 3’s.

Teams that played us m2m were holding us to the 50s.

Agree with thisZ I love our offense during senior year AO and senior ear Rak. Would love to have that again.

She was on axe and stated a few notable bullet points.
  • She believes he’ll either be all in the draft or all out of the draft and won’t just test waters!
  • He and his family value the potential to graduate in three years!!
  • He will decide next week!!!

Why shouldn’t he test the waters? Not really any downside on doing so as long as he doesn’t sign.

Big thing is to not listen to agents but to listen the league GMs and Scouts.

Would be wonderfully shocked to see him not test the waters. I would if I were him.

Because if he struggles in certain areas the scouts remember that more than the areas he looked good in

But isn't there more upside to working on those things. AWIII tested and then transfered to Syracuse. He is now an NBA player.

This is why a lot of players are all in or fail to declare all together. The combine does little to move your stock. Lydon had a great combine last year and his stock didn't move at all. The NBA draft committee gives each player feedback before the combine so they pretty much know the range they will be picked.
