I was told from a university source that it would cost 9-10 million to buy out Red (which corroborates with what others have said), then whatever the buyout is for the new coach, then to pay the new coach. People talk about lost revenue next season, and I totally get it (it’s likely gonna get even worse), but that is in the future. To fire red and hire a new coach you are looking at around 14-15 million conservatively, and the athletic department simply doesn’t have the money right now. Apparently Cuse only has raised around 1 million in their new 50 million dollar fundraising campaign. Usually these campaigns don’t even get announced until 50% is already raised, and Cuse announced theirs when they had 2% raised. It reeks of desperation.

Don’t shoot the messenger(s)…it’s obvious to nearly everyone that this is a sinking ship with an unqualified captain. But we all better grab our life preservers because our captain isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

They raised a million yesterday alone from one person. I was called yesterday afternoon to donate myself.

I’m starting to think that Fran is exception rather than the rule. The dome is going to be a mausoleum next season for basketball.

How we have a 9-10 million dollar buy out on a guy in his 2nd season as a head coach is wild stuff lol

This is the second person that stated that number, not that I think Dashers numbers are wrong, but hearing it twice really hammers it home. WHAT A GOD AWFUL CONTRACT !!!!!! Whoever gave him that contract and thought that contract was a good idea should be fired as well. That is so so so bad I can't even explain how bad that is for an unproven coach who has never even interviewed for another P4 head coaching job in his entire career or any head coaching job at any level. That is total malpractice to be honest and unacceptable.

People need to start being held accountable for the dumb decision that our athletic department continues to make over and over again.

Can our message board brother JWILD44 donate some of his salary back to the athletic department again?

Or has he done that anonymously already?

How do you plan on raising $50 million without announcing that you're trying to raise $50 million?

I still can’t comprehend how someone at Syracuse would give Red $3m/year on a 3-4 year guaranteed contract. That makes zero sense for an unproven coach. I really hope is just a bad rumor that has zero merit.
Same.

I still don’t understand this $9 million figure. Wildhack and the university lawyers are fools and should be fired immediately if they’re paying Red $3 million per year with a 5 year contract. Is that what people are suggesting? He had ZERO experience as a head coach. They should have been prepared that this might not work out and we would need to fire him. How much was JB being paid in his final years?

100% right. This is shocking if true. Utterly shocking. JW needs to be called out for this level of absolute incompetence if this is the case. How do you not learn your lesson, or at least be cautious, after the Babers debacle?! ADJW might have just signed his own death sentence because this program will be dead by the time Autry get fired. God help us.
