People saying Fire Autry because we missed out on Deng and Valencia….relax…Deng was probably out of the picture for the past few weeks, Valencia is uber athletic but is going to be hit or miss. We’ve been linked to similar (or better) options for that bench wing role

You're new here.

"Fire Autry" is everyone's default setting.

Who said that?

Its just crazy that two guys (one who was probably already out on Syracuse and one who is a mid major guy averaging less than 10ppg) causes that. Bryce Zephir commits and it’s the same thing.

The thing is that we may even get a better option by being patient.

The thing is, and I'm not trying to bemoan not getting Deng or Valencia per se, maybe this is another of Red's shortcomings-
That is, selling these kids who think they should start on coming in and competing and worst case being valuable off the bench. Seems like many of the more successful current coaches can do that. But maybe that's a byproduct of mucho NIL. Or maybe that comes with proven success and being in the tourney...

If we had some recent success it would be an easier sell. That said it’s not difficult to see that we likely have a logjam at the forward spot.

Would you say "MANY PEOPLE WERE SAYING THIS?"

I heard one was like "SIR, I think Autry should be fired"

It's a reminder that recruiting is a two-way street.

No matter how much you want any player, or no matter how "attractive" we think our program is, the player still gets to assess fit and make their own decision.

Valencia, while a better shooter, seems a little like the kid we already got from Georgia Tech. Once that happened, I figured both Deng and Valencia were longshots, even though we'd like them to bolster depth.

What WE want is largely irrelevant to an intermediate-level prospect who seeks PT or a bag.

Players don’t go into the portal to sit and not start. They have options and can determine where they want to go.

Leffew did last year.

Specifically took more money to sit on the bench.

It's the money.
Leffew played 25+ minutes in every game but like two, and 30+ in multiple games. Let’s not act like he was just “sitting on the bench” he was a definitely an important piece to their team.his 25 minutes a game, were 5th on the team, 6th being at 19 minute a game(4th in minutes played .2 minutes a game more as well) so just because he didn’t start, didn’t mean he wasn’t essentially a starter.

I’m not disagreeing btw it’s bascially all about money but just wanted to se that straight. It was a Georgia kid going home with a bag and a good opportunity, one that was obviously better than the one we present on multiple counts, money, winning, close to home, etc.

Cross him off! He like Deng did not want to play at Syracuse. Why bother with questions because he/they is/are not playing for Syracuse next year.
