My observations of practice from the 80's-early 90's. JB is the CEO. The assistants run the drills. JB observes. He directs team items, not necessarily individual or group drills.
If that's the complaint about how he runs practice, it's how he has done it for 40 years.

So I guess then still comes the question of what is the issue then? We are a shell of the what we were year in year out for so long. If it's not coaching then how does one explain the sizable drop-off in results and failure on important pieces like JP and Reid?

The whole practice or the beginning? I’ve gone to dozens of practices although none the past several years. It was always the same. In the beginning when they were warming up, stretching, doing some drills like 3 man weave etc, JB wasn’t engaged. He’s be in his office or off to the side engaged in conversation with someone etc and the assistants and trainers ran things. Then JB would go on the court and call everyone over, players and coaches. They’d then start the meat of practice of implementing something, running plays, practicing fast breaks, 5v5 etc. It was basically the same thing every year.
That’s how I recall practice back in the day when pee ons were allowed to attend. Its been a hot minute though.

Let's be real, it's not like our assistant coaches are Bernie Fine, Mike Hopkins and Troy Weaver anymore. Bernie was with Boeheim since day 1, and hop and Weaver were all stars on the recruiting trail. We know what happened with Bernie, but Hop is obviously a head coach at a P5 school, and Weaver is an NBA GM. Less engagement and a coaching staff that isn't necessarily murderers row doesn't help. But I agree, Boeheim has always run things (from my understanding and limited years of viewing) as a CEO. Maybe what worked in the 80's just doesn't work anymore.

It's simple hes old doesn't have the juice he used to have. I have no idea why he is hanging around now that his kids are gone.

It’s also almost exactly how K did things. This critique is one area that I think is misguided on JB

Regardless of the details; it's fairly obvious that no assistant coaching staff does as much "heavy lifting" as ours does. And, it's probably been that way for quite a while now.
Yep and if you look at player development, that is 100 pct on the coaches. Griff/Jesse. Gerry/Buddy. Anyone on here that thinks JB develops players is absolutely delusional. He knows basically yes, but players get better because they work hard and work constantly with the assistants..

And when it comes to JP, this is a big reason why he is not going to SU. Because the head coach doesn’t help develop players and kids want that type of attention from the head coach and JB ain’t giving it

People are delusional if you think head coaches are solely responsible for developing players. Do you think Callipari or Coach K are doing the drills to improve players? It’s all on the assistant coaches. The head coach plays a big role in helping players to have a better understanding of how the game should be played within his or her style. Jim has had recruits not highly recruited get drafted in the NBA. This talk of JB not developing players is garbage.

Pretty tough to turn down the NIL money JP might get from Tennessee. We have Newhouse, The Maxwell School (Elite schools of Syracuse University). With the Falk School Of Sports and Human Dynamics and the AD from espn how come we seem to have been behind with the NIL stuff? No excuse really. Selling used uniforms and t-shirts won't get the job done.

The SEC and Big10 are going to dominate sports

Just spoke with the head of player development at Iowa. He pretty much said they know JP is going to Tennessee because of the 400k NIL money.

In Syracuse, boosters get a recruit a commercial for a local car dealer.

In SEC Country, booster get a recruit a car.

Is that enough for a Maine lake house?

Zero surprise here. And NCAA won't do squat.

Yep. This is why we are going to be more late cycle than early cycle going forward

Good for him. It will be less net money than kids used to get at SEC schools, due to the taxes they will have to pay on it now that it is legit.

That’s BS.

Because NIL doesn’t come from the school.

Maxwell is a graduate school isn’t it? and Newhouse (I’m a grad) isn’t that sexy of any option considering journalism alone barely pays the bills (players make it to espn via their playing experience, not the school education).

Not directly no, but be real, it is all from boosters who do what they are asked to do. Its not like somebody suddenly can not do without a recruit shilling for their company.

I'm not suggesting he come here for either of those schools. I'm suggesting that there should be enough smart people on campus to have got in front of the NIL. You can get an undergraduate degree from the Maxwell School.

What player has credited JB with improving so much he got drafted in the nba recently ? Don’t worry I’ll wait
The credit for the wins, the loses and the development (or lack of development) all go to the HC. It's his system, his program, his assistants, his processes, etc.
However, the program can only provide the tools, support and opportunity to develop. It is, of course, ultimately up to the player to put in the work. To not give credit to the head guy is wrong.
As for developed players, Elijah Hughes and Buddy come to mind, recently.
