Class of 2018 PG Anfernee Simons-Decommited from Louisville

I think Louisville basketball is done-zo, and that the 'Ville we're accustomed to is going away for a LONG time.

He's just salty that Bowen got $100k and he only got $50k.

Needs to make that up from another school now. Any takers? :p

Simons is originally from Louisville, isn't he? If so, maybe he committed to Louisville because it is his hometown.

Somewhat surprised to see Nova and UVA on that list. Do they really want--or need?--to drink from this well? Some other respectable programs on here too though. Just shows you what risks people will tolerate for a pot o' gold.

Dumb question, but other than losing a player, is there really a huge risk? Assuming the player got money from UL, wouldn't all the dirty be on UL and not the school that took a chance?

Agree...if the new school has nothing to hide, there really is not a huge risk for them, other then spending the time to recruit a player that may end up being ruled ineligible.

If he took money or other benefits (maybe his family got a nice week vacation, were flown across the country for a concert, NBA game, etc), he could be declared ineligible. If you recruit and sign a kid and plan on him being your PG, then he's declared ineligible 2 weeks before the season starts, good luck.

Unless you're Kentucky and you always have Plan B, Quade.

Plus, as the NCAA starts trying to look less irrelevant, they will need to conduct their own investigation and try to get some low hanging fruit. These players that possibly took money and then de-committed would be an easy first target. So you are inviting the NCAA to start poking around your program if you take one of these guys.

Yup, they'll start going through your closet, making phone calls into your assistant coaches, making visits to your campus. They're like termites.

That was my thought as well, and EastCoast makes a good point above too. Bring a kid like that on board and you're inviting extra scrutiny.

However I do assume that most of these programs did their homework and wouldn’t have made contact if they didn’t feel comfortable with it.

You'd hope so, for their sakes. Just glad SU is steering clear, at least for now.
