Friends, let's not share information from subscriber-exclusive articles...and I wouldn't pay much attention to the RPM right now. I talked to Deron's dad earlier this week. They will drop a top 5 at some point after the NC State OV this weekend. I candidly don't know where Syracuse stands, in terms of making or not making a top 5. I'd be surprised if Deron signs early, given the early period is almost here.

Rippey Jr., the consensus No. 1 point guard in the Class of 2026, is currently considering nine schools - Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, N.C. State, Miami, Texas, Tennessee, Syracuse and Louisville - but will trim his list soon. He has completed his visits.

“We are going to narrow out [a] Top Five,” Deron Rippey Sr. said via text. “There is no timetable set. [We are in] no rush.”

In a recent interview with ZAGSBLOG, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound guard broke down his thoughts on each school and a potential decision timeline.

Syracuse: “That was great. It was definitely one of my favorite visits to go up there and as a New York kid, I feel like that’s been like the pinnacle of New York basketball and college basketball for a long time. They definitely love their New York kids, so I had a great time up there, from the staff, from the fans. It was great. “

As for a potential decision on a timeline, he said, “I’ll be reevaluating all the schools after I take my visits. I’ll definitely be watching a couple weeks of college basketball, so whenever I feel a decision is right I’ll drop a commitment date.”

A good showing in Vegas will go far
Agreed. I texted with Deron's Dad again yesterday. Top 5 coming soon. No hints about whether Syracuse will make the cut, but I personally think SU will. But having a good start to this season is extremely important, as many of you have noted! Syracuse beating Houston and/or Kansas would go a long way, IMO...

I honestly can't believe that I'm at the point now where I feel like we have a real chance of winning these games. They're going to trample on my heart again aren't they?

Yeah I’m with you. The good news is it’s really all driven by the defense which at least gives us logic on our side vs just emotion and optimism. Seeing Bingo run with Gtown and put up 70 gives me even more hope given we could have held them to even less and put up 100 to go with.

Houston is solid but they don’t look like the juggernaut they did last year, Kansas is too one dimensional with Peterson and then even Tennessee looks more beatable. All that said we have to show against Drexel that the defense is legit and can travel and the identity of this team is what we have seen in the first two games on the exhibitions.
