was and always would’ve been a suprise if we prevailed here, this isn’t surprising all that much. Smith has always been the player we’ve had a fighting chance to land.

Definitely looks like Duke is the leader. Based on some recent chatter, next in line are Arkansas/Georgetown.

Freeman is probably gone to the NBA, would LOVE to have him back but idk if that’s realistic unless we drop a huge bag.

I’m cool with Sadiq at the 4. But I think we gotta upgrade at SF and C. I think Betsy and Souare are good players. Idk if I’d want them starting. They are 20mpg kinda players for me off the bench.

Add a starting center and small forward. With George, Kiyan and Sadiq.

Then Fennell, Betsy and Souare off the bench. I’d be cool adding another guard too. Specifically at the 2 guard to back up Kiyan.

There’s being outbid, and there’s not paying more than you think the value is.

Kline (and most others) are going to prioritize the portal over HS kids, especially at positions of need.

Wasn’t a need, it was a want. That changes the budget.

This doesn't surprise me to much, this staff has historically been off on their read on these higher top 20 type kids. Every year I read that we're the school to beat and that they might be committing, and every year its the same, if we don't get them earlier in the process they probably arnt coming. Im sure the kids talk it up like they are coming, and God bless the staff for trying to get in the minds of a teenager. But I dont ever get wrapped up in the "where we stand" stuff because history has shown its rarely accurate

You're correct. You never put him in the SU camp. However, you went to great lengths to put SU in a positive position. Post 97 suggested you knew his dad for 2 years and based on your discussions he was a "serious" possibility.

You have to understand that these positive innuendos create a very
hopeful mindset on this board. The doesn't mean you shouldn't continue your input, which is very insightful. I became a pessimist
when it came to recruiting successes back in the Julius Hodge era.
It's better to take a deep breath and just let it happen.

its wild ESPN doesnt even list SU on Smith's list of 10 or so schools: Duke, Arkansas, GMU, FSU,, Georgetown, Lousivulle, Michigan, Villanova, UVA etc

i know people will say ESPN recruiting site sucks...but if SU isn;t even listed there, I highly doubt we can get this player

100 percent is what I take from that. And yes the coaches knew it would be tough but not making the top 5 is definitely surprising to me. But doesn’t matter if NG is coming back
