Class of 2026 PG Deron Rippey Jr. (NY/NJ) Offered

Personally I don’t think we ever should have backed off Karvala.
Same here. I said before that he was our best chance of landing a ‘26 recruit. The others are so much highly rated, have great relationships and respect for our coaches, so we were just a courtesy name on their list.

At the end of the day, Rippey and Jordan would have been nice gets, but it’s not a huge loss being that George and Anthony will be back and are solid as backcourt starters. Our focus for next year should be starters in the front court to go along with Sadiq.

You're correct. You never put him in the SU camp. However, you went to great lengths to put SU in a positive position. Post 97 suggested you knew his dad for 2 years and based on your discussions he was a "serious" possibility.

You have to understand that these positive innuendos create a very
hopeful mindset on this board. The doesn't mean you shouldn't continue your input, which is very insightful. I became a pessimist
when it came to recruiting successes back in the Julius Hodge era.
It's better to take a deep breath and just let it happen.
Appreciate the candor, my friend! No sense in going back and forth...wishing Deron well!

Sometimes the best freshmen are so good they take over the game, sometimes the best freshmen aren’t developed enough yet and the senior guard is the better option. I don’t know what will be the case in this one, but it’s a legit question.

I am very high on George, and hope he is here next year. Stability at PG is great, when you have a top notch college PG. So I agree, it is fantastic to potentially have him back running the show next year.

And sometimes you are right. In 1995, we recruited wunderkind Stephon Marbury, who jilted us for Georgia Tech. That "forced" us to turn the reins over to fifth-year senior Lazarus Sims, who helped lead the team to the national championship game.

Would we have gotten there with Marbury? No way to know -- but odds are against it. Maybe Marbury would have played alongside Z, as the 2, and it would have worked. Or maybe he would have been handed the reins from the jump, and let us to the F4 because he was just that good. Or maybe he would have been undisciplined like you suggest, and the team wouldn't have gotten as far as it did with a more experienced PG like Z at the helm. No way of knowing. But I think most SU fans aren't unhappy with how it worked out.

That said, I can't think of any SU fans that would turn their nose up at landing a top 5 recruit. Especially when landing that recruit would essentially guarantee Red returning next season.

As it pertains to Reds future, we are going to know a lot more about the future after Vegas and home game vs Tenn so at least we won’t have to sit on speculation too much.

I agree, we will know how the season will likely unfold after those three games.

I'm just saying that if we hypothetically landed Rippey, then I have difficulty envisioning the AD terminating Red due to a mediocre season.

Seems like we're good at recruiting dads, and bad at recruiting the kids.
That's an interesting statement.

May be true.

Definitely there's been some feedback recently to that effect.

Than the #2 player in the class?

#2 prospect not player - I would much much rather have a proven senior than a freshman - I KNOW that George is good - I have no clue if Rippey is good in college - I would bet anything that George will have a better college season than Rippey next year

I think people overreact to the HS recruits these days. They aren’t as nearly important, but I do think fans have more of a connection to them. That said I have full faith in Kline.
