The pitiful run blocking of our OL has been lost in all the discussions about our QB situation. It's gonna be tough for any QB to succeed if we can't establish some semblance of a running game.

And it’s tough to run when teams know your QB is struggling and you don’t need to drop extra guys into coverage.

Pull guys into the box, blitz like crazy, and force him to make accurate throws in single coverages.

I would have got Carney as ready as possible during the bye. At least he can threaten with the legs. If he’s not it then you move on and keep recruiting QB’s. If this is the best we have then we need to recruit over the entire QB room. People counting on Angeli to be ready and 100% very well may be disappointed. We better be portal shopping .

He looks like a mini pint sized Kirkland version of arch manning when he would get a few snaps his freshman year. That said a few series a game might help him

I think it was just to try to pacify the fans. “ Look , I put Carney in and he didn’t play any better”. I was there, the fans booed when Collins was put back in. Coaching staff didn’t give Carney a chance to do anything.

No. They didn’t. They certainly didn’t run the offense while he was in as if he was a “real qb”. It was if they pulled someone out of the crowd to play QB.

Well here is a question - Carney enrolled early. He’s been with the team for 10 months. Why the hell would he need to work off a limited playbook? Is him throwing a 40 yard int any different than Rickie doing it (repeatedly)?

This is the part I don’t get at all. Put him out there and let him run the offense - it’s what he’s here for. If it doesn’t work out or he looks bad or whatever, then go back to Rickie, fine. But to put him out there with some Mickey Mouse playbook just to go back to Rickie….

Carney didn’t eF up. That’s sadly an improvement. Throwing a nice ball 5 yards short of a WR or to the other team is worse.

If Carney isn’t “ready” then what the eF is Rickie? We had less than 100 yards with him in the first half. Heck the same happened the two prior games too. That won’t change so what is the point in playing him going forward? Especially if he is gone next year?

Amazing that Fran will go 9-3 regular season year 1 and the opposite year 2.

WHY is Luke Carney doing the post game presser? He does not look happy. Further humiliation by HCFB? I don't get it. Almost bizarre. How quickly does he enter the portal? 12:01am on Jan 2? It's almost as if Fran is daring the fans to be supportive of his decision making.

Why would you want Carney to look happy after the game? Cuse got our asses handed to us and he went in for a few plays and got yanked. If he looked happy, something would be very wrong.

We should how a Jordan Palmer type and be a QB finishing school. Everyone is going to transfer, just go get the best grad student you can who thinks we will help him get drafted. Everything else will probably be a mess but that's the default

Not capable of what? This is what I don’t understand when you are using Rickie as the comparison. I feel like people are trying to compare Carney to a normal QB, which is wrong.

We are better off running zone read the whole time than playing Rickie another down.

If he were throwing 60% and 250 yards you can maybe deal with the INTs. But we are talking about a struggle to get to 50% and 150.

It occurred to me at some point in the 3rd quarter that if you take out the short field interception and the stupid ending of the first half (coaches fault, but due to unrealistic expectations of Rickie) we’d have been up 7-6. And IMHO those 7 points belonged to the defense anyway.

Even if all agree that Carney is only ever going to be undersized and underdeveloped quarterback with a limited playbook who we have to play conservatively (we don’t), I see that as an improvement over a QB that is routinely thrust into places that backfire.

Also, Fran, Nixon, if you’re going to play Rickie please stop with all the go routes and long balls. I get that the kid has an arm, but you tell us he needs development and then call difficult throws when the other teams know he’s got limited reads. The top receivers consistently end up in double and sometimes triple coverage.

Am I the only one who thinks Rickie actually looked decent after he came back in, minus the sack, that was stupid, the 3rd INT was not his fault, thats an unlucky bounce and if Gill holds onto that it's a 50 yard gain and we are in a position to make it a 1 score game, could it have been better , yes, but it's sure as hell better than the last time I saw him throwing a deep ball, as in, it was on target and it's not his fault the Oline and specifically Naquil Bertrand can't go more than 2 plays without commiting a penalty. That is not to say that I think he's good, he's not, but he's not nearly as bad as some people act like he is.

Did I hope for more Carney, yes, but at the same time, and I know this may be hard for some of you to understand, I just don't think he's Ready, sure some of the play calling was subpar, but if he hasn't adjusted to the difference between fairly low level Texas private school and D1 P5 in terms to complexity and game speed, then there is only so much you can do.

Yes you are. He made one good throw and under threw another 4 balls, 2 of which should have been INTs, one was but we can claim wasn’t his fault. He looked bad.
