Pitt Week Tweets and Videos

Scott Shafer is about to begin his weekly teleconference. Prepare for the horde of updates.

Shafer said Syracuse's emphasis on passing was part game plan, part reactionary to UVA. Tons of short stuff.

Shafer has nothing but good things to say about QB Eric Dungey's decision making. His run grade was much higher this week.

Only clear mistake I noticed was Dungey not pitching to Philips in 3OT. Had only a moment, but OC Tim Lester wanted the pitch.

Shafer said Ben Lewis played some Y on Saturday in addition to hybrid. Gives more opps to freshman Dontae Strickland.

Shafer on Dungey taking hits: "It's tough to take the aggression out of an aggressive person, and that's what makes him who he is."

Shafer said the staff isn't worried about the contact Dungey is taking, but is trying to teach him to be smarter with sliding/throwaways.

Shafer said Narduzzi texted him after telling the kiwifruit allergy story on the ACC call about a month ago.

Shafer said he thought about going for the win at the end of the second overtime at UVA, but believed the SU defense could get a stop.

So, coach, what did you see Saturday that led you to believe that the defense could stop UVA, because the rest of us sure didn't see it.

Or better yet - do you now know that we need to be aggressive offensively because at this point they are the better route to wins?

Syracuse DC Chuck Bullough said S Rodney Williams practiced today and should be good to go for Pitt

Bullough was asked whether CB Julian Whigham would see a drop off in snaps. Said it's been discussed, but didn't want to help Pitt gameplan.

Bullough said DE Ron Thompson could've done more against Virginia. They stood him up in packages, but read screen a couple times too many.

Conversely to Whigham, Bullough expressed confidence in young corners Juwan Dowels and Cordell Hudson. Both were good in coverage vs. UVA.

Syracuse OC Tim Lester said QB Eric Dungey's decisions in the run game jumped from 46 to 80 percent correct against UVA.

Syracuse OC Tim Lester defends his offensive line's play. Says Dungey needs to be better on his hot routes when D has extra blitzer.

Lester said Dungey's hurdle TD was on a Stick draw. Virginia played coverage, Dungey took off. Same play as Erv's TD. SU ran it 5 times.

Lester talking about SU's virtual reality gear. Said Dungey uses it all the time. Good for reading DEs, which he struggled with vs. USF.

As much as this kid has given to SU (almost his life) and fought throughout his life (HS struggle with a disease which prevented him from eating solid food for months), I think it is time he gets a rest so we can see what the young kids can do. Hope he fights through this, too.

Yup. Unfortunate but it just isn't working out with him out there.

He probably saw the first 3 quarters, where we held Virginia to 7 offensive points.

The tide had obviously turned, but, I'm not going to say his call was incorrect. If he had gone for 2 and missed, the other 33% of this board who was ok with the philosophy would be up in arms.

If he goes for it and gets it, or the defense gets a stop, there are most likely ZERO "0" fire HCSS posts this week.

Everybody is so quick to turn on things.

Agree. We were way better on D than anyone is giving us credit for. I think 4th Q is stuck in our heads.
