Shafer talking about his relationship with Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi. "We just clicked the first day we met."

Shafer said Syracuse lost leverage in the screen game a couple times against Pitt.

Shafer said he kept in touch closely with Narduzzi before the season and a text here or there since.

Shafer praised Eric Dungey for his decision making under pressure. Notes him being 10th in the country in pass efficiency.

Shafer said Syracuse recruited Penn State DE Carl Nassib, Ryan's brother, as a walk-on. One of nation's top pass rushers this year.

Shafer said Syracuse's low play count is a reflection of the defense not being able to get off the field. He wants that number to go up.

Shafer says he's pleased with the progress of young players but adds "they're not young anymore."
