Maikhail Miller grey shirted this past season at Ole Miss. The new coach Hugh Freeze wants him to play tight end or line backer. He is bringing in a JUCO, Drew Brees type QB to run his offense. , Miller is a pro style QB. Freeze is giving Miller a chance to pursue his dream of being a QB so therefore he's giving him a release this week, however, he would still be welcome to stay in the program. Miller might not be a bad kid to take a gamble on. If it doesn't work out at QB he could always be moved once he got his shot. MM was considered a three star coming out of Itawamba Agricultural HS in Fulton Ms. There are high school highlights available at our old site, he was class of 2011. I have first hand knowledge that Syracuse is a program that he's interested in. There have been attempted contacts but he has not heard back from anyone. Check out his video, see what you think. He would be ready to come in right away, not sure if this would be considered a true transfer , whereby, he'd have to sit a year but I'm thinking he'd be good to go right away.

Why not, right? Loeb will never see the field. Miller could very well be out with his off the field issues. Can't really write off Kinder, yet, but not sounding like he's showing anything special. Jury out on Hunt, rightfully so. AB seems to have major potential - at QB but elsewhere, too.

If this program needs to bring in 100 QBs until we get someone who can put the team on his shoulders, so be it.

Ideally, I would like to see them bring in 1-2 QBs every year...

and if Ole Miss were to run the option - what would it be called?

Oe, so if I am reading this correctly the kid has not enrolled at ole miss yet and will do so this semester? Therefore, he could possibly be ready to go for spring ball, not that I see him beating out nassib

if the staff isn't even responding, then I'm guessing this is a non-starter - not going to happen

He grey shirited in the fall (was class of 2011). Ole Miss fired Huston Nutt & the new coach is being kind enough to allow the kid to transfer so that he can have an opportunity to play QB & is giving him a release. Freeze does want him to stay if he so chooses but gave him the option to play tight end or linebacker. I'm "grey" on transfer rules regarding grey shirts but I was told he can enroll right now & could compete for playing time in the spring. He is pro style QB so maybe we aren't interested.

Yup - definitely skills we wouldn't be interested in.

Time is of the essence for Maikhail.

He has a very short window to transfer as he has to be enrolled before the start of classes wherever he goes.

The release business was just worked out.

If we have an open scholarship I don't see the harm of adding him to the class.

There is one huge difference, Maikhail Miller did it against much stiffer competition.

I won't argue with you about that and I would agree with the fact that there is no reason why we shouldn't be looking at bringing him in if he is interested.

There does not seem to be a QB in waiting so I'd be fine bringing in another option. Real question for HCDM is whether this kid is better than kids we are currently recruiting? Barring injury Nassib is the only QB that will see the field next year.

There are quite a few kids from time to time where some posters get bent out of shape because we didn't seem to pursue the player even though the player had interest in us. Sometimes we have no idea what the reason is for "our" lack of interest, maybe the staff knows something we don't.

In this case though, we have to be involved. If we're not and he goes somewhere else w/o any contact from the staff that is a serious issue, IMO. The key differences to me that separate this kid compared to Canzeri for example. Level of competition and most important position on the team - with no clear backup capable of winning games. If there are issues we aren't aware of, it's not like were not already bringing someone in like that. If that staff then decides that those issues are too big of a deal, then I'm fine with it. I would be very disappointed if we made no effort to even investigate though.

That’s ridiculous. Just because a true freshman (Hunt) and a redshirt freshman (Kinder) can’t beat out a 4th year junior you think there is nobody waiting in the wings? I’d say there’s a long way to go before that’s proven out.

Do you guys remember Philcox or even Kevin Mason. These were two very good QB’s who didn’t step on the field until later in their careers because of the guys in front of them. Philcox was a 4th year junior and Mason a 5th year senior if I remember correctly.

MM also likely had a better OL, better receivers, better coaches and probably played year-round as did most of his teammates. All of that possibly makes him more ready to contribute earlier, but not necessarily the better prospect.

Either way, with the season being over for quite some time - I'd like to see at least one of them take the time to follow-up when a player shows interest like this. Even if they don't decide to pursue they should give a response, ask for film, etc.

Perhaps I should have used quotes. My point was there is not one player that has been annointed or that everyones agrees is the next starting QB...no "QB in waiting." Which means there will still be a competition at some point to determine who replaces Nassib. That being the case I see no harm in adding more players to the competiton.

Per scout he is enrolling in January at Ole Miss.
