Second Round
CLASS AA
Utica Proctor continued its dominance with a 55-14 crushing of Baldwinsville Tasean Cooper rushed for 222 yards and scores from 59, 25 and 52 yards out.
Proctor makes history
Cicero-North Syracuse, the dominant team in the section the previous two years, stumbled to a 5-3 record , including a 0-32 loss to Proctor and found themselves down 7-28 at halftime to Liverpool, then suddenly came alive and roared to a 28-0 second half to win 35-28.
The championship match-up:
Utica Proctor 9-0 (346-124) NYSSWA #16 MaxPreps 10/1314 PS- #1 Titles: 0
Vs.
Cicero-North Syracuse 6-3 (197-156) NYSSWA HM MaxPreps 101/4876 PS- #34 Titles: 2
Lost to: Liverpool 0-10, RFA 27-34, Utica Proctor 0-32
Comment: My Northstars had a couple of great years but this is Proctor’s year. No AA team got within 17 points of them. It’s amazing the state sportswriters have them ranked only #16.
CLASS A
The second best team in the section isn’t anyone form Class AA. It’s Class A’s Carthage who lost only to Utica Proctor by 7-12. The Comets beat Whitesboro for the second time in three weeks, first 42-7 and now 48-28. In between they beat their finals opponent, Auburn 49-17.
Auburn won an epic game over Indian River, 61-59 in overtime, making an amazing comeback from a 13-45 third quarter deficit. It was reminiscent of a similar comeback they made against Henninger when they went on to win the state AA title in 2006.
Auburn football's miracle rally: Down 32, Maroons beat Indian River 61-59 in OT to reach finals
Carthage 8-1 (404-142) NYSSWA #5 MaxPreps 12/1344 PS- #1 Titles: 3
Lost to: Utica Proctor 7-12
Vs.
Auburn 7-2 (347-272) NYSSWA #25 MaxPreps 89/3284 PS- #3 Titles: 5
Lost to: Indian River 20-53, Carthage 17-49
Comment: Do the Maroons have another miracle in their pocket? They may need it. (MaxPreps didn’t update Auburn’s state ranking – they didn’t show it at all- , just their national ranking, which improved all the way from 4661 to 3284. I left last week’s state ranking on their line, but it’s got to have gotten better than that. )
CLASS B
The two undefeated teams made it to the finals as Solvay survived a shoot-out with New Hartford, 42-39 and Oneida rallied to beat Marcellus 41-34. Solvay had earlier beaten Marcellus 42-35 while Oneida had beaten new Hartford 13-6, so this should be an appropriately competitive game.
Football: Oneida erases two-score deficit to drop Marcellus in Class B semifinals
Solvay 9-0 (419-206) NYSSWA #6 MaxPreps 62/3504 PS- #1 Titles: 3
Vs.
Oneida 9-0 (307-100) NYSSWA #10 MaxPreps 70/3700 PS- #2 Titles: 3
Comments: I don’t know if Oneida’s defense is going to stop Solvay’s offense but I think Oneida’s offense will score on Solvay’s defense.
CLASS C
Lowville was supposed to have a stiff battle with Canastota but they blew out to a 36-0 halftime lead and coasted to an easy 49-15 win.
Cato-Meridian will be Lowville’s next challenger. They shut out Herkimer 16-0 to get to the finals.

Lowville 9-0 (470-132) NYSSWA #4 MaxPreps 15/1563 PS- #1 Titles: 4
Vs.
Cato-Meridian 9-0 (337-54) NYSSWA #5 MaxPreps 98/4727 PS- #2 Titles: 1
Comment: It’s the irresistible force, (Lowville is averaging 52 points a game), against the immovable object, (C-M is giving up just 6 point a game and has three shut-outs). Lowville’s Maxpreps rankings suddenly jumped from 43/3150 to 15/1563! Cato’s barely moved from 100/5012 to 98/4727.

Waterville 7-2 (145-85) NYSSWA HM MaxPreps 280/9194 PS- #2 Titles: 0
Lost to Beaver River 6-13, Dolgeville 0-28
Comment: Can Waterville score enough points to hang in with -S?
