PMS'ing in Puppy Land

We're one game and a couple of free throws from three national titles the same as them. Good for them. Calhoun won three national titles in four trips to the final four. We have been to four trips, just didn't finish when we needed to. A great achievement I will give UConn that, but it's funny they act like they are so much superior to us. Calhoun and Boeheim battled it our 50/50 over the years head to head. Uconn has been a great program in basketball. They are frustrated right now. They won't be getting the attention we will this year, and they can say the ACC will hurt us, but I think that is just denial. As we saw tonight we still are getting our guys in recruiting.

EDIT: Four trips to the final four in the Boeheim era, the same as the Calhoun era for uconn.

Has jealousy ever been a legitimate reason one fanbase hates another? Ever?

The whole "they hate us because they're jealous of us" mindset is something you would expect from a teenage girl. No, they don't hate you because they're jealous of you; they probably hate you because you're a little b*tch.

Well. Said.

Again, I don't wish that they slide into irrelevancy, myself, but I just don't see why we would schedule them.

As mentioned in the other thread, Georgetown, St. John's, SU, and Villanova were what established the Big East brand that allowed Calhoun to guide UConn from an average program to elite status. We've given already at the old office. No reason to give any more in our new home.

Besides, they'll be fine in the AAC in terms of basketball.

Cheers,
Neil

Yup. Gonzaga, Memphis, and remember Louiville in the Metro ?? All got good seeds every year. But when they roll into March they won't have been tested as those in the power conferences.

Mark, my favorite is where out title was a fluke. They finished, what, 9th? and played Butler in the final. Also, don't they know that we beat them a lot more than they beat us?
Is it a fluke when you beat two #1 seeds and the top #2 seed (that some thought should be a one) on your way to the championship? They also don't seem to realize that our rivalries with SJU and Georgetown go back farther than our rivalry with them.

I love laughing my arse off at these threads. Makes for great entertainment. Btw, I didn't know Boatright sounded like a chipmunk.

The funniest part of that thread is that many of their fans act like they "own" the series with SU. I decided to go back to the 1999-2000 season (when their decade of "dominance" began) to see what the series looked like. Here are the results:

1999-2000: 1-1
2000-2001: 2-0
2001-2002: DNP (What by the way)
2002-2003: 0-2 (at least we won the NC)
2003-2004: 1-1
2004-2005: 1-2
2005-2006: 1-2
2006-2007: 2-1
2007-2008: 0-1
2008-2009: 1-1
2009-2010: 1-0
2010-2011: 1-1
2011-2012: 3-0
2012-2013: 0-1 (would have been 1-1 if they weren't banned from their own conference tournament)

So SU holds a 14-13 edge. It's an even series, and SU has a distinct edge in the last four years at 5-2. Yup, their decade of relevance and they STILL had a worse record head to head.

And here's the 1990s, where they definitely have an edge. Of course the 1990s was the SU swoon decade (save a couple solid years) and it was the rise of UConn as a national power.

1998-1999: 1-2
1997-1998: 0-2
1996-1997: 2-0
1995-1996: 0-2
1994-1995: 0-2
1993-1994: 1-1
1992-1993: 1-1
1991-1992: 1-1
1990-1991: 2-0
1989-1990: 1-2

They have a 9-13 edge on us in the '90s. So overall in their two and a half best decades they have a three game advantage. In the last decade and a half we hold the edge. Let's take a look at the 80s:

1988-1989: 1-1
1987-1988: 1-1
1986-1987: 2-0
1985-1986: 2-0
1984-1985: 0-2
1983-1984: 3-0
1982-1983: 1-1
1981-1982: 2-0
1980-1981: 0-2
1979-1980: 2-0

We hold a predictably large 14-7 edge on them. So in the three decades that matter SU has an overall record against the puppies of 37-33. They beat us good in the '90s, we thumped them in the '80s, and it's about even in the 'aughts. What's this all mean? They are delusional as always.

They seem to think they'll be fine in the B1G. Really? You gotta be in it first. And the B1G is apparently a better conference than the ACC according to them. Fascinating.

IIRC SU got a 7 seed in 1985 which resulted in playing #2 Georgia Tech in Atlanta for Round 2. Losing 2 games to a less than .500 storz team (13-15, 6-10) must have dropped SU at least one seed line.

Aside from minor things like location, history, facilities, and fan support BC and Syracuse are totally identical.
