And, the way I see it, he will always be the Big East’s all-time leading scorer. Markus Howard is the all-time leading scorer of a watered-down league.Great stories. Poetry didn’t have to say much. He spoke with how he played, and how he treated people. There will never be another Lawrence Moten. He was so great. Those of us that got to watch him come in as probably the lowest ranked recruit in that class to being the best player in the class and the best scorer in school history was something to witness. It really was like watching an artist out there.
1993-1994 SU at GeorgetownCurious if anyone happened to try and track down any of his old games on YouTube? If you did, could you link here? I would love to watch a couple of his old games.
For the "youngins" on this board. If someone posts some game links, grab some beer and watch them on your TV YouTube app and enjoy a legendary SU hoopster. He was really fun to watch. As others have said, super smooth on the court. His step shot and Lawrence always anticipated were a ball was going when another player shot and always had a quick putback.
Yes. I was there as well (missed -about 5 BETs). Went from being sure we would win to What just happenedYeah, I was at that game. First round vs. Providence. Also went to OT. We had a chance to win it with about 10 seconds left and Moten just froze.
It’s unfortunate that his last BET and NCAAT games ended that way. Wasn’t representative of him as a player.
Not sure if this could be done in the new dome, but I like the idea of having images of certain orange greats who have passed painted on the roof, “watching” the games. Might be too creepy. With technology, maybe they could be projected during the games only.
Yes Marvin was a key recruiter to get Moten to SyracuseNot sure if it has been mentioned but he was a great football player at Carroll HS as well and had big time scholarship offers for it. He was Washington Post All-Met in both sports his junior and senior years. I think he might have been the only person to ever do it. My memory is a little foggy but I think he played on the same Carroll team as Marvin Graves for a couple of years. A great athlete and from all accounts a better person.
This is beautiful "poetry".
