Also, I was just at the SU women's basketball tournament at Southpoint. My room was one of the nicest I have ever stayed in. Remodeled. No yucky carpet but vinyl plank flooring. A very large room, and I had some great meals there. So that could be another option off the strip.
I believe they still are. The average of around 1400 sounds about rightwhat was the board score minimum in SATs? 1,300? 1,400? I don’t even know what they use anymore, are the SATs still a thing?
Lodging is tricky, as it depends so much on what you want to do here.
For folks who are just coming in for the game, I suggest Delano, Mandalay Bay (both very nice hotels) or the Luxor (cheap option, they just remodeled their rooms after some backlash) I haven't gambled at Delano, but both Mandalay Bay and Luxor have pretty solid casinos- the sports book at Luxor is kinda lame. These three hotels are closest to West Hacienda ave, which is the overpass they shut down on gameday. Folks walk from these three hotels, across the highway into the stadium. The walk takes about 15 mins I think (Not really sure, I've never done it sober)
Next up would be NYNY, MGM Grand and Park MGM. They look far away on the map, but if you cross the street to Excalibur you can jump on the free tram that takes you to the Luxor and Mandalay Bay/Delano.
NYNY is nice, and usually pretty decently priced. Park MGM is the only (I believe) completely non smoking property on the strip. And you can tell as soon as you walk in.
For first timers, I always recommend staying mid strip. Harrah's, Linq, Flamingo, Caesars, Bellagio etc. I suggest this, because it allows you to explore the a large chunk of the strip without a ton of walking. From any of those hotels, you can walk to the Bellagio to take the free tram to Park MGM, quick walk to excalibur, back on a free tram to Luxor/Mandalay bay.
Excalibur is about to be torn down to make room for a baseball stadium- I've heard not so great things about it's current condition.
OYO is the old Hooters casino- still have $1 blackjack 24/7
I think the Signature at MGM can be booked through Airbnb.
Circus Circus is pretty run down these days too.
Folks who want to stay far away at like The Strat, Fremont street (which is a must check out) or any of the off strip casinos- traffic into Allegiant isn't horrible, especially for this game (which wont be a full stadium sell out, I don't think they'll open up the top level). You'll be able to uber right to the stadium, or get your rental car to a parking lot with minimal issues.
Happy to answer any questions anyone has, and there's a more than a few folks on the board who have much more Vegas experience than me who will chime in as well.
Can't wait to see everyone!!!

Live in CA. Parents are in Vegas. I can bring a cooler possibly a canopy. I’ll have to check if I can get access to a portable grill.Do you live out there?
Any chance you can bring a cooler, canopy or grill?
As I've stated before, I will 100% be at Pitt (closest game to where I live).
Trying to figure out UNLV vs BC for another road game. UNLV is tempting for multiple reasons. JR mentioned prices were gonna be high due to a NASCAR race happening there that weekend though so we'll see.
Also, trying to get to two home games this season since I didn't make it to any games last season due to honeymoon in Japan and a couple weddings and stuff going on.
I don't follow NASCAR and just accepted it as fact. LolJR is loonytunes. Nascar is a few weeks later
At least this time we won't be waiting for an hour for the last inebriated Cuse fan to make it back to the bus!
I mean, I'm always down to try!
LA and Grand Canyon are in opposite directions from Vegas. You might consider a Hoover Dame, Grand Canyon, Prescott/Sedona, and Phoenix tripThank you so much for this! We will be at the game and you offered great insight. My wife was looking at Mandalay Bay due to proximity of the stadium but didn’t know they shut the highway down for games. That’s an added bonus for the tipsy walk back and forth!
This will be our fall vacation this year so we plan on visiting the strip but also head to the Grand Canyon and LA. This should be fun!! LGO!!
good stuff troop, you must be over the moon the Cuse is coming right to you!.Lodging is tricky, as it depends so much on what you want to do here.

Duuu!good stuff troop, you must be over the moon the Cuse is coming right too you!. No doubt any first timers who want (and Should!) experience "Vegas" should stay right on the strip and experience quintessential Vegas. More cool old time vegas is to stay on freemont street at the golden something down there. Very cool experience, or at least it was 5+ years ago.
Those of us who have been there way too many times avoid the strip like the plague and stay off the strip. My favorite which is by where my parents lived for 20+ years out by red rock canyon, which as you know, seems like it doesn't belong in vegas. The resort there of the same name is just the best (lately best know as the place Ronny the limo driver got married!). Gorgeous, close enough but just far away enough to the strip, etc. (edit: one last thing, think its the Tropicana that's coming down for the baseball stadium, not Excalibur)

More cool old time Vegas stuff is to stay on freemont street downtown at the golden nugget down there. Very cool with the old vegas vibe the newer Freemont street experience overhead, zip liners darting over ya, etc., was very cool, at least it was 5+ years ago.
Those of us who have been there way too many times avoid the strip like the plague and stay off the strip. My favorite which is by where my parents lived for 20+ years out by red rock canyon, which as you know is essentially a miniature grand canyon, so seemingly misplaced in Vegas like it just doesn't belong in las vegas.
Anyway The resort there of the same name is just the best (lately best know as the place Ronny the limo driver got married!). Gorgeous, close enough but just far away enough to the strip, etc., but has everything that any Vegas resort has but much more low-key just by virtue of the fact it’s away from all the insanity. Recommend this place to anyone who wants a more “relaxed” Vegas.

Lol yep, Yeah last time I went to the Excalibur was five years ago, and it was hurting hurting, even worse than Circus Circus.I've been on cloud 9 since they announced it! lol
Red Rock Casino has always been the cream of the crop for Station Casinos (the chain of local off strip casinos). I'm a Green Valley Ranch guy myself, as it's right by the house. They just opened the new Durango casino, that's "supposed" to be nicer than Red Rock, but I haven't made it over yet.
Ahh good call on tropicana- I mix those two up all the time. Based on the looks of Excalibur, they should tear them both down haha
I’m currently on a UAL Dreamliner to SFO (and then on to Pebble for the Bing Crosby Clambake) and you could definitely fit 2 sixtels in the overhead bin.Confirmed last night I’m heading to Vegas. Not sure if kegs will fit in overhead bins …
